Really very good

Comments about Rock House Metal Guitar, Melodic Speed, Shred & Heavy Riffs Level 1 with Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom DVD:

I wanted to review this after reading a view negative reviews that almost made me not buy it. First of all, to the people wanting more discussion or breakdown of scales and theory used, IMO that is your own fault, not the fault of this DVD. A beginner shouldnt be picking up this DVD and expect it to teach you everything about the theory. Alexi uses basically major and natural minor scales (Diatonic mostly, some pentatonic). If you don't know what this means, do a little studying on the side before picking up this. If you know what this means, you will have no problems understanding what he is doing. I recommend this to anyone wanting to improve their chops, regardless of whether you are a Bodom fan or not. If you like catchy riffs and melodic/heavy music, this is really a blast to practice! I think of this DVD as a compilation of technical lessons that sound much better than the stuff you get in pure technical lesson books....because these riffs and leads come from actual songs.

Instruction-No

Comments about Rock House Metal Guitar, Melodic Speed, Shred & Heavy Riffs Level 1 with Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom DVD:

Wow-This was absolutely terrible. No instruction concerning scales/progressions used. Just him showing what he can do...which I admit is impressive, but a real waste in time. UNLESS you just want to be able to play what he does without any analysis or technique discussions. I would certainly save your money.

HAIL ALEXI!!!

Comments about Rock House Metal Guitar, Melodic Speed, Shred & Heavy Riffs Level 1 with Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom DVD:

If you are at all a fan of Alexi Laiho this DVD is a great buy. Alexi shows you different concepts such as scales and then shows excerpts from his songs using the concept he just taught. So yeah, he does show songs, but the information is there. I do believe if I am not mistaken, that using the lesson in a musical context provides a student with accelerated learning, I like that!! Plus Rock House gives you the backing tracks to Alexi's songs so I get to play along with them to really master Alexi's lessons. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I read that Alexi sounds confused, I didn't get that impression at all. Alexi is from Finland so I see it as his English isn't that of someone native to the USA. Alexi is however clear and concise plus is personality really shines through, especially when he teaches tapping. I love the lessons, I love the content Alexi gave and Rock House really put their hearts into making a great DVD. Hail Alexi!! Hail Rock House!!!

If money grew on trees..

Comments about Rock House Metal Guitar, Melodic Speed, Shred & Heavy Riffs Level 1 with Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom DVD:

I'm a huge children of bodom fan. When I bought these videos I expected what was promised in the description. There was no rundown on scales, theory, chord progressions, anything really. Just Alexi Laiho sounding confused and playing riffs from songs Ive already heard, very few of which were actually challenging to a moderately skilled guitarist. If you dont plan on learning anything from these videos in the first place, then youre the exact person who should purchase them, otherwise do yourself a favor and spend your money on something else.

I HOPE YOU'RE A HUGE CHILDREN OF BODOM FAN

Comments about Rock House Metal Guitar, Melodic Speed, Shred & Heavy Riffs Level 1 with Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom DVD:

If you're a huge Children of Bodom fan you may be in for a real treat. But if not, it may just be unbearable to get through. If you are looking for some new metal techniques or theory then I would look elsewhere like the Lick Library DVDs. Alexi gives you a few riffs and solos from some of his songs. That's pretty much it. He doesn't explain particular scales or keys being used. I guess your expected to know it.Production wise, it's pretty decent. The video is clear and it doesn't look like it was recorded in someones basement. But Alexi looks like he's stoned the entire video and often has a hard time explaining what it is he's doing.Overall, the DVD comes with web support, has a book with it and a quality produced DVD. But the deciding factor is, "do you really want to play a bunch of Children of Bodom riffs?"If yes,, this DVD is for you, if not. I recomend buying any of the Lick Library METAL EDGE DVD's.

Rockhouse and Alexi do well!

Comments about Rock House Metal Guitar, Melodic Speed, Shred & Heavy Riffs Level 1 with Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom DVD:

Being a Children of Bodom fan and always wanting to improve my Guitar playing, I purchased the two Rock House Metal videos featuring Alexi Laiho. Level One started out simple enough. Alexi looks a little nervous talking to the camera, but that doesn't affect the quality of his playing. (Come to find out, he did have the stomach flu on some days of filming.) Unfortunately he explains "just enough." He doesn't go into great detail, but he explains just enough to get the idea. You better like Children of Bodom if you buy this -- It's all based around snippets of a few songs. "Bastards of Bodom" - "In Your Face" - Are a couple that appear. Some of the Whammy bar tricks he shows are neat, but the DVD moves quickly and is done before you know it. Well worth the money, the skill level ramps up from beginner to intermediate within 20 minutes of the DVD playing though.
