For what it is...a plastic trombone, I'm very happy!
Just got my new pBone a few hours ago! I'm 53 and have been playing for more than 40 years, and I feel like a kid with a new toy! It is what it is...a plastic trombone, but that being said, I'm very happy with it! Can't beat the price...it's cheap! I wouldn't throw away my Edwards for legit stuff, and don't count on blending well with the section, but I can definitely see myself doing some jazz & rock gigs with it.
Anybody else have problems with their shoulder and neck after long practice sessions? This will definitely give you a little more face time. It's extremely light...And it's CHEAP!!
You won't have to worry aboyt dents and dings. The plastic is very durable. The instrument is very ergonomic (fits well in the hand). Mine is bright yellow.
The mouthpiece isn't too shabby either. I like it better than any mouthpiece that has come with my other instruments. I'm a stainless steel guy, but I'll actually USE this plastic mouthpiece.
What can you loose (did I mention, IT"S CHEAP)? It won't break your budget, and you'll get a kick out of it!
Face it. How many people adore Bill Watrous for his amazing tone (love ya Bill)? No, he just smokes the riffs! You can do that with this horn. Pedal tones are a bit tedious, but who cares...It's CHEAP!!
It is what it is...a plastic trombone. But it assembles hassle-free (just push the hand slide into the goose neck). It fits the hand better than anything I have. It feels surprizingly sturdy. It looks good. It's light weight. The mouthpiece is acceptable. The gig-bag is very funtional, and cased, is quite compact. Ever tried to carry a trombone on a motorcycle? Now you totally can.
Yup, it's well worth the price you'll pay for it! Might even get myself a spare.

The black Pbone plays nice, but it has a little bubble inside the outer slide receptacle, which makes a clicking sound and feeling. Too bad they don't look these things over before they ship. The bubble is hard, so it will be tough to get rid of it. I'll see if the repair guy can fix it before I decide to return it. It looks really understated, as it is almost flat black. The high D really doesn't want to play, and is flat.
The horn sounds really nice, though. I have a blue one that sounds really good, too.

Comments about Jiggs pBone Plastic Trombone:

Really good horn; fun to play, good tone, and great design. I would recommend buying a new mouthpiece for the pBone, as the one it comes with is not the best and may be uncomfortable to people new to the trombone. It is really good for high school marching and pep band, because all the brass trombones will get dented and scratched easily. Great value.

I thought my trombone playing days were over because I had difficulty loading my King 3B trombone into my car and dragging it up stairs for band practice and performances. The pBone is light weight and easy to carry without a cart. The tone quality is good but it requires more precision of the slide position and lip tension to keep from cracking on some of the tones. The slide is fair but is getting better as I paly the Pbone more. I am nearly 85 years old and hope to be able to play my pBone for another couple of years or so.

Comments about Jiggs pBone Plastic Trombone:

Our sales representative from a local music store brought one in today and when he played it there was little difference in tone quality from the brass horns we field (and we field nice well maintenanced horns and field an all brass and percussion unit). The horn he brought in was blue, and it both looked good and played well. I do admit he is a professional trombonist and a teacher of private trombone lessons, but not only did he seem very pleased with it, I've found lots of favorable reviews of this product. Check out some of the youtube videos of musicians performing on one!
You cannot beat purchasing a starter trombone for this price. People may wonder if it is a fully functional trombone, and guess what it is! The slide positions are in the same place on the slide and it sounds like any other trombone more or less! The only complaint I've read about is the noisy slide, there is a short break-in period and you should take care of it as instructed. For the student learner it is a durable, inexpensive, and an exceptionally lightweight choice.
I personally hope that these do well so that the company continues to develop other lightweight instruments because a lightweight plastic sousaphone of comparable tone and price would allow marching bands to field instruments that are both light and colorful!

Comments about Jiggs pBone Plastic Trombone:

I bought this to play in a 70s band with a clip-on mic. I liked the idea of it being lightweight so as to be easier on my back, standing for hours in platform shoes! For this purpose it is good. It definitely plays better with my usual metal mouthpiece. It doesn't project like a brass instrument, so using a mic is quite useful. The water key is leaky, causing drops all over the place. It took a few weeks to break-in the slide, but I am happy with that now. It sometimes plays with a lot of back-pressure, and other times feels like it has an air leak. Plays better in mid and upper registers, lower notes can be tricky.

So all-in-all, it's okay. Nice price, fun to play, and gets lots of comments. Saves my back, looks sharp and works fine with a mic. But I won't be selling my brass bones. They are far superior for big band and jazz work, IMO.

            fun horn

            By Harry Stanton

from Rochester,NY -Sun City Center, FL

Comments about Jiggs pBone Plastic Trombone:

pluses: lightweight - price - fun factor
            minus: slide
I was amazed when I heard the p-bone on u tube so I ordered one to try it out. (Music stores in my area didn't know anything about the horn when I called them to try one out.) When it arrived I was impressed by the weight and color (yellow). Playing the horn was fun and different. I usually play large bore and bass trombones so I was wondering what kind of sound I would get from this horn. I've played it for about two weeks and I'm finding that the sound is quite acceptable. I'm still using the plastic mouthpiece that came with the horn and it seems to be okay. When I get back to our summer home I'd like to try it with one of my metal 6.5 AL's.
My one big criticism of the horn is the slide. The brief info sheet that comes with the horn states that all you need is water and the slide will work in with time. Well, I'm still waiting. I finally tryed some slide-0-mix on it a couple of days ago and it seemed to work a little bit better. After a short time, the s-o-m started to gum up. I took it to the sink and washed it down with just water and wiped it with a kleenex. To my suprise, the slide worked perfectly. I did notice that the kleenex had turned black ... from the plastic part of the slide.
Man, would I have liked this horn when I was marching or playing on the back of a float. It's certainly not going to put the Bach company out of business but it does have a place in a trombonists arsenal.

Comments about Jiggs pBone Plastic Trombone:

A bit of an adjustment - have to work harder to get air through it to make it sound like a brass instrument - it is easier to use if you also get a brass mouthpiece. But with some adjustment you can make it sound just like a brass trombone.

people will say that plastic is inadaqaute for a brass instrument. people gave Buck Owens grief for playing a solid body guitar; its not brass. it does it. I have an old Olds baritone that is heavy (brass) the tone isn't that much different. my only concern is the brass against the fiberglass on the slide (every time I hit the spit valve the discharge is colored with the fiberglass (which means the brass inside the slide is wearing the fiberglass slide)) I'm afraid it'll leak air (the bane of tone production)

I like just about everything about my white pBone; however, when trying to play a lot of jazz songs, the high G doesn't usually come out. There must be something about how the ABS resonates because I have tried my metal 6-1/2 which I usually use on my metal tenor and it still didn't come out. I also tried a 12c and nothing. Luckily in jazz it looks like I'm just playing with soul when I gliss up into it. Besides that, I really love the pBone. It will revolutionize the world of music education (especially the pBone mini).

Comments about Jiggs pBone Plastic Trombone:

I am a "one man band" working 4 -5 nights a week. I bring the Pbone with me and play it to midi files when I need a break from the keyboard. When I bring out my red Pbone the crowds love it, and more importantly, I love it. The slide works better than I ever imagined it would, right out of the box. I don't know how they do it, but I still get that trombone sound from an instument a fraction of my regular trombone's weight and much less bulky. Don't get me wrong. I'm not putting my regular bone on ebay. But if you need an horn for a jam session or just a few songs a night and want to make a spash with very little trade off, Pbone is for you......Marschall

Good sound but the slide it a little noisy but they say that the noise will go away with playing the instrument. All in all, a good buy. Very well worth it.

For a plastic product I'm really impressed with the sound and feeling! It's light, comfortable and sounds great! But I would recommend using a metal mouthpiece instead of the included plastic one. I played with my red mouthpiece for a week and when I tried playing in my regular metal mouthpiece I no longer had the wide range I used to have.

I loved playing the trombone for so many years, then a more lucrative college major took me away from my instrument. Trying to pick the old insrument up again (after 40 years) with its bigger bore made it hard and frustrating to improve. I thought this smaller bore horn might be the trick...and it did! After a short time of sounding like a wounded moose, my lip memory started returning and I could play some scales...no high register yet, but it will come soon. If you are like me and want to get back to playing, this is an excellent and inexpensive way to do it. I still have my good horn and will be able to play it well again someday primarily because the Pbone made it a little easier to get going again!

Comments about Jiggs pBone Plastic Trombone:

This is a plastic trombone. Those wanting a serious instrument with excellent tone should look elsewhere. However, for those who are looking for an inexpensive trombone to play for fun, you couldn't do better. Easy to play, won't kill your wallet, and you can personalize it just about any way you want. I bought it to match my school colors. The included mouthpiece has an incredibly shallow cup which promotes high register and ease of partial changes with the downside of limited low register. For the sake of tone, I generally just use my metal mouthpiece. My one gripe is that when using a plunger or holding music to the bell, the top half of the instrument can come off due to it being held in place by friction. Bottom line: I would not recommend this as a first instrument or as a primary instrument because you'll never be taken seriously. This horn will never be on par with it's brass counterparts, but it was never meant to be. For less than the cost of most student-level horns, you can have a trombone that requires no maintenance, and is genuinely fun to play. For small high school marching bands, this is also an excellent choice for your bone section during football games because it can match your school colors, is inexpensive, and isn't affected by heat/cold nearly as much as brass.

I brought this thing to an A's game (got the green version of course) and I got on TV!!! It was pretty awesome. And the trombone itself, besides being the obvious eye candy attraction that it is, plays like a brass trombone. Yes, the sound isn't perfect, but for[$] there's no better way to get a plastic trombone. It's extremely light... and extremely fun.
