Comments about AKG Perception 420 Condenser Microphone:

I think I may have already written a comment. Great microphone. Has a log cabin type sound to it. Some minor sibilance. Used to have a 2035 and many other average microphones and also some custom capsules in them. This puts them to shame. Don't have to get close to the mic to get good vocals. They recommend it for piano and brass. I can see that it would pick those instruments up. My guitar cabinet however still will use my MXL R40 with a Lindhal 2912 transformer that is awesome. Great buy. I think the 220 is the same capsule but doesn't have all the patterns. If so that's worth consideration too. AKG hit this one out of the park. I've heard their top end mics are good too, but at 2 to 4 times as much it's not worth it to get something that is close in performance. Heavy mic. Very nice case and shock mount. It's a winner.

Comments about AKG Perception 420 Condenser Microphone:

After buying many entry level mics and modifying them I found this mic to have all the dimensions the previous mics didn't have. You don't have to use the proximity effect to have a nice full sound from the mike. Some minor siblance. Sounds great with voice about a foot or more away. Sounds like I'm in a log cabin recording. It has that type of sound. It sounds pretty good on my acoustic guitar but I still prefer my modified MXL R40 ribbon mic on my guitar cab. This mic is not the holy grail for recording voice but at this price it's the first mic that gives me studio quality voice sound over other mics I've owned like the NT-1A. The multiple patterns makes it very flexible too. If you're a high level amateur recording artist this will do the job with flying colors. It blows away the AT2035 and I'm sure is on par with all the one's at the AT2040 level including the SM7B. The next level for me would be the Avantec or other tube mics. No way I'm shelling out for the high level ones. It's probably only a subtle difference and I've heard complaints from people that it was not worth shelling out that much. As with any mic I suggest a decent pre-amp tube or not. Even a mini mic or MIC200 as long as it isn't damaged. If you get crackling or distortion it means your preamp is damaged so it's not fair to critisize equipment onece it's damaged. AKG420 is a winner. Hollow wood type sound but remarkable reproduction of the male human voice like mine. Finally a decent mic thank you AKG for offering this quality at this range. Top of the line case and shock mount. It's a winner.

Comments about AKG Perception 420 Condenser Microphone:

I have 3 different mics. Shure SM57 Shure SM58 Audix i5 This mic blows them all away. I able to sing and play guitar 2 feet away and it picks up everything great. The sound quality is amazing. You can put your mouth 2 inches away from the side of the mic and yell and hear almost nothing through the PA. But 2 inches in any other direction and it gets loud but clear sounding. Great purchase.

Comments about AKG Perception 420 Condenser Microphone:

Right out of the box (a nice box at that) and straight to the bluegrass gig, this mic was incredible. 3 bluegrass musicians around it on the cardioid setting and, even with a steady wind, it sounded great. Thanks for the recommendation, very happy with this mic. Can't wait to try and record with it.

        Preception 420

Comments about AKG Perception 420 Condenser Microphone:

These mics are sensitive condensers and pick up sound very easy. the different polar patterens combined with the roll-off and the pad switche's give these mics a very BIG advantage over other brands. They faithfully and acuratly reproduce what ever you put in front of them.
Good features it gives you options
AKG always has good quality and workmanship and it shows in there product's
I looked at other mics that cost twice the amount but they did not have the three polar patterns and that's important in recording. more bang for your buck

Comments about AKG Perception 420 Condenser Microphone:

I got this to have polarity options as well as to add another "voice" to the mic closet. It is noisy as an ambient mic in omni mode. It also has always seemed a little shrill to me as a vocal mic. Overall, brittle sounding. However, I've gotten some great sounds using it on amp cabs. On the right voice I'm sure it would sound great, but I haven't found that yet. In the price range it's a good buy for the features, but tht's about it.

        Well-rounded mic for the studio

        By

        from boston

Comments about AKG Perception 420 Condenser Microphone:

I've had this mic for about a year now and it has been the go-to mic in my studio ever since. It is extremely versatile it sounds great on vocals and guitar cabs. I used it as an overhead for a while but recently I've been experimenting with it in different places around the kit. I find that if you roll the pad to -20 db in stick it in the kick you can get a great thump. The response is amazing, I'd recommend using a pop filter if recording vocals though. The only thing that it has lacked in was when i put it on a bass cab, It wasn't the greatest I've heard but still good. This thing makes its way all around my recordings I'd strongly recommend it.

Comments about AKG Perception 420 Condenser Microphone:

I bought is mic about a year ago and am just now testing it out on my vocals. I sung a gospel song in Pro tools and I was very impressed. The clarity of and mid range of this mic is great. It is not too bright and not too low. It is worth every penny and then some because it sound so good and it has so many features. If, you are think on adding a good mic to you collection I highly recommend this AKG Perception 420.

I got this mic a few weeks ago and finally had a chance to test it out on a drum kit for a song i was working on. previously i was stuck using an SM-57 for an overhead mic and with the addition of the AKG the drums sound AMAZING. the set up is AKG 420 for over heads..SM-57 on snair, SM-57 on hats, Audix f10's and f12 for the toms and audix D6 for the kick. with this set up i have gotten a great sound in a less than perfect environment.

Comments about AKG Perception 420 Condenser Microphone:

I'm a real home studio enthusiast in TX. This Pereception 420 has awesome features and is handy in every situation. Bought it a month ago. I've recorded male/female vocals, acoustic/electric/classical guitars, guitar amps, bass amps, and drums. Everything sounds accurate/bright/full/warm/in your face. I'm able to sit tracks nicely with this mic. Only need to tweak my EQs a bit to get a good mix. This mic has different settings for every setup no matter what it is. I love it. I am saving up for another one.
