Versatile, budget-priced studio condenser mic with pro features and sound.

It's an entry-level priced multi-pattern condenser mic that sounds as good on vocals and instruments as mics costing seven times as much. It does particularly well on acoustic piano. 3 polar patterns allow close, ambient, and M/S stereo miking. Slight bumps at 6 and 12kHz makes for a detailed and exciting sound.

The GXL3000 Pro Studio is a large diameter, multi-pattern, condenser microphone. High sensitivity and low distortion make the GXL3000 an ideal mic for recording, broadcast, and sound reinforcement, including vocal and instrument applications. The capsule in the CAD GXL3000 features a 1" gold vapor deposited diaphragm.

The GXL3000 requires standard 48 Volt phantom power and comes with a suspension shock mount. Each GXL3000 microphone is audio tested and inspected under the direction of CAD Professional Microphones, offering an exceptional level of value.

I am a recording engineer with 40 years of experience. My latest project was to record a voice over for a sales presentation. I normally test the talents voice with AKG414BLS, Neumann TLM170 or a Sennheiser MD421. Some times I use a RCA 77DX ribbon. I had woked with this talent before, so I put out the AKG414. I also mounted the CAD GXL3000. I did a test, the CAD GXL3000 set to bi-directional, blew the AKG 414 away!!!! It cut right thorugh the mix. With just a little limiting and EQ, this moderatly priced mic worked great in this situation. My guess is that I will be using the CAD GXL3000 regularly in my studio for many projects.

The problem with reviews is that users who have never compared this microphone with others get on here and claim things like "This is the best mic in the world." I'm not going to do that.I have been a producer for about 8 years now. I bought this mic about two years back, because I wanted something different to add to the lineup. That was my first mistake. To be frank, this mic is horrible. The sound quality is terrible, the mic has lots of static on vocals, and I have never heard another mic that had any static on vocals what so ever. I thought it was the cable. It wasn't.Do yourself a favor and buy an AT 2035. Right now it's $4 cheaper and a much better mic for the money.

    4 years later...

Comments about CAD GXL3000 Pro Studio Microphone:

I purchased this mic 4 years ago out of the desire to get a flexible and useful large diaphragm condenser, mostly for recording vocals. Do not think of this as a professional mic, it isn't. What it is, is a great way for someone getting into recording to have a solid and quality mic that has many features for a very low price. No it won't sound like a Neumann, obviously, but it doesn't sound bad. You know what the great part is? This is one of the most modded mics in the world. When you upgrade and no longer need the medium low quality of a mic in this price range, just search "gxl3000 mod" on google and you'll find businesses that specialize in making cheap mics like this one, sound like $2k for around $400. Buy this mic, upgrade it, and save a ton of cash!

I too have 40+ years in the music industry (performing and recording classical) and was pleased with this mic. I have the BIG brother E-350 for a baseline test subject and the GXL 3000 held it's own. I highly recommend the 3000 for price and performance.

I use this mic for recording vocals, and for miking other instruments such as guitar or viola.I have to say, its a great mic especially for its value. But the top comes very loose at times, Be aware of this, it can shut off, leaving you confused.Other then thatIts a solid GREAT mic.

a little better than the rest

Comments about CAD GXL3000 Pro Studio Microphone:

This LDC is at least slightly better than all of the others in its class. How many other condensers in this price range offer 3 different patterns? It also comes with a nice shockmount and leather bag. Oh yeah, and its sounds slightly better than similar mics (MXL 990, etc). Still doesn't sound like more expensive mics, but its good. I find that I have to cut some high mids when using it on vocals, but it depends on who or what you are recording.

I bought this mic on a stupid deal a couple of months ago. I'm very impressed. It sounds fantastic on my voice. Its my go-to mic for vocals now. Thinking on getting another for stereo miking. You'll not regret it.

Nice sweet sound for a few bucks

Comments about CAD GXL3000 Pro Studio Microphone:

Recently bought one. I must confess that for the price I paid I didn't expected to be a blast. But I tested it on vocals, speech, some hand percussion and piano and I found that the sound I got was very, very nice, smooth and sweet. So I tested against my AKG C3000B and surprisingly there wasn't that much of a difference. In the rance from 12Khz to 20Khz the CAD mic was a bit superior and in the Low Bottom it recorded solid, strong, but very defined sound. Whatever The AKG C3000 still being a little better in the mid and low mid range that makes the voice sound sweeter and more rounded. So I think that at this price range a mic that sounds so good is realy a great deal!Only, but strong problem is that the mid body of the mic tends to loose a little eventhough I fully tightend it several times and it causes some awfull strong pops like phantom shortcut. This is realy a problem that makes it hard to trust. I think it's a petty that a grat affordable mic like this is so untrusty buy a little assembling defect.
