Comments about MXL LSC-1 Live Series Condenser Mic:

Great Mic and great value. I bought 3 for my band and everyone loved the sound. Compared to the SM58 the LSC-1 is extremely clear and you don't have to work your voice hard to get the sound. Of course the SM58 is a fine mic and it is a dynamic mic and the LSC-1 is a condenser. The LSC-1 comes with a choice of 3 capsules making it very versatile.
The capsule is sensitive (condenser) so you may need to reorient your technique a bit to get used to it...

the plastic case it comes in is unreliable, but not worth diminishing the 5-stars on the actual mic quality and value!

Comments about MXL LSC-1 Live Series Condenser Mic:

I own several MXL studio mics, and I like all of them, so I had to give this one a try, when it went on sale. I ordered two of them, with the idea that if I didn't like them for live use, I would still have a flexible, great utility mic for studio use.. For live sound, I have been using a Shure Beta 87, which is a wonderful live vocal mic. I knew the Shure would be very tough to beat, with it's smooth, dependable, feedback free sound... The LSC gives a hotter signal, right off the bat, and quite a bit hotter, at that! I don't really see this as any kind of an advantage, but it is noteworthy. Both mics sound great, but they are quite different animals. The LSC sounds more like a studio mic that works pretty well live, whereas the Beta sounds more like a live mic that works pretty well in the studio. My band is loud, and the Shure cuts through nicely on everything, allowing me to do airy backup vocals, as well as take my "five or six per night" lead vocals. I found that with the LSC, I had to use it in the low cut switch position, to give it a similar sound to the Beta. Without the cut, I could not get right on top of the mic, which is often needed in high volume situations. However, with the cut,I did not feel like I was missing any lows, regardless of my proximity to the mic... This mic has a very smooth, silky sound, which lends itself to a powerful lead vocal. It sounded best when I was really belting into it, and in that mode, it might even outshine the Beta! It sounded very powerful, but very smooth at the same time, with no harshness in the mids. My one minor complaint is that I found it dificult to place my falsetto harmonies in the mix. With the Beta, I am able to get off the mic 3 or 4 inches. That didn't seem to work well with this mic, and it was difficult to find the correct distance from the mic to hear my intonation without being too loud. But remember that I am used to the Shure, so a little more time on the mic might solve this problem..At any rate, I like this mic enough to give it a couple more nights before I make my final decision as to which mic I will stick with as my primary live vocal mic. Be forewarned that if you do buy one of these units, it does not behave quite like a typical Shure mic, and there will be a learning curve. I have only used it for two full nights, so far, and I found myself liking it more and more. But I am still wrestling with finding the right eq and proximity for this mic. I am using it with the hypercardioid capsule, which has a very tight polar pattern, with wonderful side to side and rear rejection. Feedback is not an issue, any more than it is with the Beta 87...Also be warned that out of the two mics I bought, one had to be sent back, because it was making noise, so I have to wonder about dependability- something I never worry about with a Shure mic.. The LSC is also considerably heavier that the Beta 87, which is another small but noteworthy negative..Even so, I find myself excited about using this mic again, and trying to unlock all its secrets.

Comments about MXL LSC-1 Live Series Condenser Mic:

Have a home project studio and always looking for a good mic.
Thought this one would do the job.
Most of my mics are MXL and I love the quality.
My first LSC-1 had a bad windy sound coming out of it even in a dead quiet room.
Was disappointed. However, sent it back to Musicians friend and they promptly sent another.
This one works great and is very quiet.
            For the money, its great.
Will use it on stage as well as in the studio.
Thanks MXL for another success in microphone building.

            LSC-1 microphone

            By Dennis Evans

            from Florida

Comments about MXL LSC-1 Live Series Condenser Mic:

Overall, the LSC-1 mic is a powerful, well constructed, high quality, amazing microphone from MXL.
The LSC-1 comes with three different polar capsules which makes it awsome to use, in any setting.(studio or live) The sound is clear and crisp allowing you to record without screaming into the thing.(unless you want to) the LSC-1 still sounds fantastic!!!
The LSC-1 mic feels sturdy and can take some abuse and still function amazingly! I can't tell you how many times I've dropped it, but I can tell you it still works terrific. It still sounds AWESOME!
Although, the LSC-1 mic cost somewhat more than I was going to spend, I haven't regretted my purchase of it.(after all, I could have sent it back, if I was not satisfied with it) Well, that's not going to happen!!!
