      Great Underated Kick Mic

      By David Koski

      from Northeastern OH

Comments about Electro-Voice N D868 Kick Drum Microphone:

I've used many kick mics over the years (RE20,D112,D6,etc) and this is one I can actually get a decent sound with flat EQ. I had been using an AKG3000 with an Earthworks Kikpad when I picked up this mic and have been using the 868 ever since. I know everyone has their own opinion on what a kick should sould like, but if I can get what I want flat anyone should be able to tweak their sound quite easily. Highly recommended!

      Serious thump!

Comments about Electro-Voice N D868 Kick Drum Microphone:

We had been getting along for some time now with a set of CAD drum mics on our live shows. With proper eq'ing I could get a "decent kick drum" in the mix. The when I finished our studio and began doing some drum tracking I discovered just how terrible the sounding the CADS were. We have always used EV nd767's for our vocals and they just cant be beat! So enter the N/D 868! All I can say is WOW! Tis all true my friends this mic kicks tail! I have since put it up against the other name brand competitors and nothing has come close to the amazing punch and depth this mic has and zero eq needed! If you are in need of some serious thump in your mix then dont even hesitate on this mic just buy it!

      The best I've heard

      By weevilboy

Comments about Electro-Voice N D868 Kick Drum Microphone:

I've had this mic for over ten years, and in that time have used a lot of house kick mics on my drum, and I have to say this microphone beats them all. The best part, as mentioned by others, is that this mic sounds great even when placed inside the drum rather than put on a stand in front of it. Highly recommended...pay the extra $ and do it!

      HOLY MOSES !!!!!!!

      By Ian Lee

      from Crystal River, Florida

Comments about Electro-Voice N D868 Kick Drum Microphone:

A sound from heaven. This mic is huge for a bass drum with a tight punch and attack with little to no muffle boom. I have used this with studio work and also live concerts. The best i have ever heard and i fell in love with AKG D112 but after using the mic, no doubt top notch mic at a great price

      Simply the best

      By WEbjamn

      from Nashville

Comments about Electro-Voice N D868 Kick Drum Microphone:

This mic smokes the competition by a long shot!! No kidding! I've used this mic both live and in the studio for the past 5 years. This is a soundman/engineer's dream. Basically plug-n-play. This mic has the deepest non-eq'd sound I've heard bar none. I've used AKG, Shure, Sennheiser and even some old RCA 90lb ribbon mics and none of them came close to the sound of this mic. You want chest thumping in your face kick drum sound live, then this is your mic. The most impressive thing about this mic is it's ability to pick sublties and articulate dynamics across the kick drum freq. Maybe a little thin above 5k so metal drummers looking for that "click" might have to eq somewhat, but other than that no complaints. This mic is worth twice the cost and for those of you who can't tune a bass drum well, then pick up this mic, put it in your kick, and folks will swear you have the best kick drum sound ever!

      MASSIVE kick sound!

      By Cameron-LHQDg

      from Fort Collins, CO

Comments about Electro-Voice N D868 Kick Drum Microphone:

I picked up the n/d868 as a B-stock item for a very good price, but it is easily worth the brand new value. Although a little bit more than most kick mics that run in the $200 range, the 868 has a sound that is nearly perfect right off the bat. I did some recording with it today and the low end is huge, I means TONS of it without being muddy. You might even need to reduce the lows a bit on recordings but it would sound awesome live I'm sure. The mids sound just right, scooped perfectly. This mic has a warm tonality, a bit of a flat response in the highs that makes it sound really good for most music, but for hard rock or metal you may need to boost the highs a little bit around 7 KHz, but that's probably the only adjustment you'll need. Compared this to the Audix F14 kick mic and there's no contest. The N/D868 is built like a tank and sounds like a howitzer, this could be the best investment any drummer or venue could make to get an incredible kick drum sound.

      Excellent Kick Mic!

      By DaveM-z-bBb

      from BOTKINS, OH

Comments about Electro-Voice N D868 Kick Drum Microphone:

This mic is the best kick drum mic I've heard. I've had mine for over a year now and always get good comments on the sound of my kick. You simply place the mic on a pillow inside your drum about 2-3 inches from the head, hook it up, and do nothing more. No stands, no EQ-ing, nothing. Sounds perfect. I wondered how long it would be before MF started carrying it. I highly recommend this mic!

      THE Kick Mic

      By amorealta

      from Baltimore, MD

Comments about Electro-Voice N D868 Kick Drum Microphone:

Beats the Beta 52, D112, and D6 hands down. No EQ needed for great attack, punch, warmth, and resonance. Actually has a larger diaphragm, unlike the Beta 52 which is just a 57 capsule in a bigger housing, EQ'ed differently. EV wins everytime.
