Comments about Shure Beta 98H/C Clip-On Condenser Microphone:

I read many reviews before buying this mike. I was on a budget but still wanted quality. This is a great mike! The sound is clearand accurate on all three of my saxes (tenor, alto and soprano). A few reviewers have complained about the relatively thin wire leading from the preamp unit which clips on your belt to the mike and having to be careful not to step on it and whatnot. Nonsense. The mike I got has a nice spool on the preamp unit whereby you can wind the wire so that you have just the minimal amount of wire you need goimg from your belt to your horn. The spool has a locking device which secures the wire tighly. If you adjust this correctly (and its very easy to do) and use the clip on the preamp to clip it to your belt, pocket or whatever, there is no way the wire or preamp is going to be on the floor where you can step on it and possibly break it. I cant imagine how this has happened to anyone unless they were just plain negligent. Just take care of this mike like you would take of all your other valuable equiptment and it will last a very long time. I was also extremely pleased with the ease of clipping and unclippng the mike to my saxes. During a gig, I can't be spending time fiddling around with trying to rreadjust the mike when I transfer it from one sax to another. This is mike is a breeze to take off and put on!

Comments about Shure Beta 98H/C Clip-On Condenser Microphone:

I found the Beta to be an excellent trumpet mic for live performances. It clips easily to the bell of the trumpet and the thin cable is nice, in that it is very light weight and does not cause the instrument to feel bell heavy. It's durability remains to be seen. I was pleasantly surprised by the nice tone quality as well. Definately very happy with the choice.

Used these many times in live performances. They tuck away nicely on the kit and seem to be very reliable. Always satisfied with the sound acheived, and am currently looking to buy a set for myself.

          Not for a clarinet

          By Woodwind Guy

Comments about Shure Beta 98H/C Clip-On Condenser Microphone:

Fabulous microphone!. Good quality with little background noise getting in. This works very well with any instrument that has a flat surface bell to clip it to like a trumpet or sax. I bought it for a clarinet and it can not be clipped to the bell. The clip simply slips off due to the curvature of the bell shape. The ONLY reasonably priced mic I have found that works clips on a clarinet bell is an AKG D409 dynamic mic. I highly recommend this mic for top quality sound if it works in your application. Just remember that 48v phantom power is required since it is a condenser mic and not a dynamic.
