The Alesis DM10X (6 piece drumkit) is a "great midi kit" & well worth the investment into new technology. I'm enjoying using it as a double bass kit (a 7 piece kit total - with two seperate kick pads & two Axis X-L2 Longboard single pedals). I haven't gotten into the details or discovered all options offered with the DM10 "Brain" Module yet... I'm still currently blown away with all the preset voices before adding my other two "Real Acoustical Drumkits" sounds into it via ddrum triggers & vise versa for using the technology back on acoustic kits for "Live" performances/recordings. The only thing I'm not liking about the Alesis DM10X is the head tensioner lug bolts with nuts. They tend to back-off from set tensions, even during normal play modes. Wish it was like the tensioners on real drum hardware (probably copyrighted).. The other unliked quality about the Alesis DM10X is sometimes samples triggered on the rims activate while playing something else (another voicing) on the drum heads without even hitting the rim triggers... From vibration shocks. Maybe this is a manageable feature discovered in sensitivity settings if any. Playing on the Alesis DM10X has already increased my advanced performance pocket & comfy groove zone feel tremendously tighter than before. Now to just get guitarists & other musicians on the same page would be an accomplishment, ..without always blaming the drummer for their own time feel mistakes! UGGGHHHHHH!!!! haha

I have only one week with the DM10X, but I felt at times that there are sounds that blend in some tom, suddenly the sound associated sounds rim.
I hope to get a good calibration between the trigger and sensitivity, but this takes time.
Preprogrammed kits have a lot of variety of sounds, but for someone used to playing acoustic, the frustration is not finding any acoustic drum simulating a pre-programmed from the beginning; this is a marketing mistake. For now do not know if I would recommend it, hopefully change your mind.

lots there for the money. more pads and cymbals at this price point than other quality competitors. snare is somewhat hard to get triggering 100% accurate. some odd flange affect when polyphony is challenged ( and not greatly challenged either) internal jam songs SUCK. cant keep hats closed for double bass work. odd. but overall good for the money.

Great value for a really nice set of electronic drums. It does take a little while to learn the control module, and eliminate the crosstalk from the triggers, but overall I am very happy with this set..sounds great.

          I dig it. No regrets.
Take time to learn the In-and-Outs of the control module.
I've had it over a year and it still does a whole lot more than what I understand

Comments about Alesis DM10X 6-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

Basic Assembly information came with the AlesisDMX10 6-piece drum set. We printed out the entire Owners Manual; the Assembly and the Wiring are very detailed; from the internet. This was very helpful. Approximately 3 hours of full assembly. The Alesis is well constructed. The sound is totally great. We had played other Brands of electronic drums on some music store displays. Alesis out-performs all of them. The sensitivity of these drums is a simple touch of your finger. All acoustic drummers out there be warned; lol; of the previous sentence. Just received the drum set last week. So many functions of various instrumental accompaniment and sound effects!!!!!!!! Going to have a great time testing them all. Oh and the Owners Manual you download from the internet has 40 pages of Sound Affects and Instrumental Accompaniment. I am not the drummer; I am a friend who is not too knowledgeable with the drum world; but, I do appreciate and know a great sound when I hear one. And I must say this Alesis electronic drum set is AMAZING.

after you tune up/ setup the set you can have a great set for studio or stage. I will say you will get some cross talk out of the box but spend just a few minutes and set up the kit it will be amazing in many ways. The heads are just like playing a acoustic set. great buy and great set.

Comments about Alesis DM10X 6-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

Out of the box I had some trouble. I had to unplug all pads and then plug them all back in to reboot the module because the triggers were all crossed at first.

Also - figuring out how to record with it was a major pain, but once you use 2 TRS cables from the main outs, it records fine. As for trigger sensitivity, there is still some crosstalk happening, even though I have adjusted all of the parameters every which way possible. I am hoping after I update the software tonight, that the crosstalk will be a past worry.

Alesis tech support is non-existent. Don't bother emailing them with questions, and they are only available by phone at inconvenient times (daytime - when everyone else in the world is working as well).

Onto the positive - this kit sounds incredible when it works properly. The pads feel realistic, especially the 12-inch ones.

The hi-hats are troublesome and seem to be the weakest link thus far. The pedal is not that responsive. I am hoping that the aforementioned update may take care of that issue as well.

I've played many e-kits and soundwise, this one is the best. Not a high-end Roland, but not a Yamaha or Simmons either. It's a good middle-of-the-road kit for someone who wants to either switch over from acoustic, or have a convenient way to record.

One last note - the clacking of the pads when struck is much louder than rubber or mesh kits. I still have to play softly, and only at certain times of the day/evening in my apartment.
