I wish the Performance Pad Pro had a USB so it could connect to a PC. Alesis also needs to get with the program and make sure they document what hi-hat and bass drum foot controllers work with their product. There's a lot of frustrated users out there. Some, like myself, even have Alesis pedals that don't work with the unit (DMHat). I've noticed this is a challenge for other manufacturers as well. What gives? I also think the unit should have continuous hi-hat capability being it's so common and so important to how a drummer projects personality into a groove. Despite this wish list, overall it is a pretty decent unit. I recommend it.
I've used the Alesis Performance Pad Pro in rehearsal and for live work. The sounds are adequate and triggered pretty well. About the only groove I was not able to play was a country style train beat. The sensitivity is just not there to pull off a groove like that. Alesis has programmed certain sounds so that the timbre changes depending on the velocity with which the pad is struck. I think this is definitely a step in the right direction. Now if they could only do that with all appropriate sounds. I have yet to work with the drum machine portion of the unit, but I will in time and appreciate that I can play along with preprogrammed sequences or ones that I create myself. The layout of the pads and buttons is well thought out and the manual is decent.
So far so good. I wish all manufacturers would make their products so the pads and piezos/FSRs can be replaced when they begin to wear out. But other than that, everything looks solidly built for this type of pad system. The pads themselves are fairly quiet, which is one of the reasons why I bought it.
Good value for the money.
