I just got the DDrum S4 Maple snare in Blue Burst a few days ago & used in in practice last night. I put a Remo Powerstroke 3 with center dot on top & Remo Ambassador snare side on bottom. It still rings a bit for me, but has a great sound regardless. It has the needed crack, but without just taking over the entire sound of the band's performance. I have the Yamaha 5.5"X14" Kabuto snare. It's a great snare, but it is way too loud for the music I play with my band. I used Remo O-Rings & everything else to lower the volume of my Kabuto & nothing worked. So I got this maple snare drum & let me tell you, this snare drum is frickin' amazing! It's got a great depth to it with an amazing pop that I've never heard before. It sounds great tuned at any level. Highly recommend this snare to anyone on a budget. The paint job is phenominal. The blue burst finish looks like the ocean when it goes from dark blue to seafoam green. It's darker than the picture shows, but when the sun hits it just right it looks like the picture. I do recomend replacing the washers with nylon or metal cause they used very cheap plastic washers that are uneven & worn out. That's my only complaint is the washers. Other than that, I am very happy with my snare.

Yo, I purchased this snare maybe a month ago and sold it two days after I got it. The hardware is cheap the lugs and tension rods arent durable, the die cast hoops are great but the shell is poorly constructed. Screws inside the shell were loose and no matter how I tuned I didnt get the sound I was looking for. I ended up purchasing a Pearl Omar Hakim Signature Series Snare and I am highly satisfied with this model as my third snare.

When I first open the box I was amaze. The color was super amazing It was like dream about it, when I tune both heads the first hit was very poping, fat and cutting. This is the first time buy a 13'' snare ddrum has a good way to built drums
So, I have to say that this snare looks amazing! Die cast hoops mixed with great finishes is a win win! But, it comes with horrible snares and good for nothing heads. Those can all be replaced. The real problem is the throw off. Had this for a couple of months and the internal plastic within the throw off split right down the middle. Well, ddrum quality loses again.
I recently purchased this snare, I was looking for a snare to use in the gospel genre. I saw this snare and the price, and I fell in love. Mine is the blackburst. When I took the snare out of the box I fell more in love. I followed all the your recommendations and switch the washers. Got a Eans Genera Dry. The sound is unbelievable. It sounds deep and with a very beautiful pop. If you buy this snare, it's like stealing it because the price is very low and the snare is like a high end snare.
I bought the "Blackburst" finish and it's probably the nicest snare drum I have and I have about 10 of them, all different brands. From the shell finish, to the die cast hoops and quality throw off, this a great looking drum. It also sounds as good as it looks. I tuned mine tight and it gets a great high-end pop with the body of the wood deep shell. I was very impressed the first time I played it as well as our sound tech. Pick your color and order this drum today!
Good quality over all. The snare throw off is nice, heavy duty; better then most. The heads are better than average that it comes with. I would have liked a heavier snare. The hoops are heavy, could be heavier, but for the price, no complaints; though was getting that odd, either to tight or to loose lug when tuning; though with a heavier Evans coated two ply head was fine. Really can't say anything bad about it, and for the price, well, it's got the tone I was after. Would've loved an 14x8 even better but why spend the extra cash and for what? ... Regards - hope that helps.
Picked this up as a scratch & dent...put on an Emperor coated on top and an Ambassador snare side with some 20-strand Puresound snares and WOW! This drum kicks seriously. The only thing in the stock head s and wires leave something to be desired...with the mods it is an incredible snare!!!! Cast hoops and quality hardware! More than I imagined....worked seamlessly with my vintage Slingerland set - sounds like a $300 - $400 snare IMHO. VERY sensitive for a deep snare. - killer!
I purchased the Red Ashburst snare and love it! It gives a great, fat tone with an amazing attack (thanks to the die cast hoops) while still maintaining an impressive sensitivity. Add into that the visual appeal of an amazing laqcer finish and the black nickel plated hardware, and you have one great snare drum!
I just bought the snare in red, and not only does it look amazing, but it sounds amazing too. I still have the original drum head on and it sounds amazing. The sound has a nice crack to it, but it still sounds powerful. Not to mention the amazing price. I would recommend this to anyone.
If you're playing a basic beginner kit, the cheapest way to upgrade is with this wonderful snare. I got it and it has a good tuning range, from big and fat, to tight and bright. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better sounding drum for less than twice the cash.
I got it and it sounds and looks f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c! Wide variety of tunings with my G2 coated and I haven't even tried a different head or triple-flanged hoops yet. I've been playing 42 years and have had many snares including DW and the other major brands. This is one of, if not THE, best ever. To top it off, I got an unbelievable deal.
