A top shelf, boutique snare should probably only need a simple Evans G1 Head to sound good. Well, not all of us have that kind of cash. I tried G1, and G2 on my Gretsch Catalina Jazz Snare and was ready to give up on the snare until I tried this head. Wow. Now it sounds like a snare should (also Hazy 300 and Puresound snares on snare side, which did NOT make as much improvement as this head). Warm, focused, dry, woody, but still with a crack and a pleasant ring. Gone is the trashiness, the warbling uneven overtones. I'm probably mimicking many of the reviews already posted here, but I think if you have Moongels and tape all over your snare and STILL can't get it to sound right, buy this head, or a comparable from another brand. This head made a cheap snare sound like a premo snare. I use nothing on it to mute the tone - and you don't even have to tune it perfectly. Sounds good high and low. I hope Evans keeps making these. Believe the reviews. It's a winner.

I bought this about 6 months ago and I would agree with the description of it to a T. It is exactly as described in every way. I feel for my taste it is a little too dry and heavy. I like my snare sound to have a bit of play with the tone, but with this head you won't get it. It's either on or off no in between (so to speak). Not bad for heavy hitters and hard rock/metal music but for an all around sound go with soething different maybe just a g2 coated. Good luck

Comments about Evans Genera HD Dry Batter Coated Snare Head:
Nice snare head. Been using the ST dry for some years and wanted to try something a little different. Was afraid I might lose some volume switching to this one. Played my first show the night after putting it on my Morgan Rose snare. During the first song, the snare mic fell off. Sound guy said he had no idea, the drum by itself was plenty loud. No worries on volume! Honestly, I don't think its a whole lot different sound than what I got out of the ST. Works great for what I do and I highly recommend it!

Comments about Evans Genera HD Dry Batter Coated Snare Head:
This product has a great dry sound that could be used for just about any style of music. The only negative is that it doesn't produce the greatest ghost note sound.

Comments about Evans Genera HD Dry Batter Coated Snare Head:
I bought this on recommendation at a local drum shop to put on an old Tama Swingstar 6.5x14 steel snare drum. I had not changed the heads on this drum since I bought the set in the mid 80's ... this snare just sat idle while I used another snare.
I never really liked the sound of this drum and initially upon changing heads (Genera dry on top and 200 on bottom) it didn't impress me any more ... also put on a 40 strand strainer at the same time.
A few weeks later I cranked the top head half a turn on every lug and then fine tuned and WOW ... this drum now sounds amazing. Thick and deep ... I never imagined that tuned this high it would retain the same character. Fat center and nice clean rim shots with just enough ring. Nothing special about the drum ... the heads, strainer and tuning made all the difference.
Try this head cranked up and you may be surprised ... I was.

Comments about Evans Genera HD Dry Batter Coated Snare Head:
No better snare head for the $$$. My kit is a Crush ash and depending on how you tune this head, you can achieve Maple or the tight pop of birch. Will be buying a few more of this same head for sure. Get it. !

Comments about Evans Genera HD Dry Batter Coated Snare Head:
This item is amazing. It was the snare head I liked the most after checking the whole Evans line. The best thing about it is that it can take all I throw at it, and I am a hard hitter. It is a good combination with the Hazy 300.
