This is a handy drum key..has an ergonomic handle,a knurled spinner knob(this plus the magnet makes removing tuning rods much easier)There are a few negatives:the key is rather large and heavy compared to a standard key,its a little more cumbersome to use and the magnet strength doesnt seem to be enough to keep the key rattle-free during play as claimed. The magnet even came out of mine, but I was able to shove it back in and anchor it with adhesive. One good thing about this key,its large handle and weight gives it great leverage for torquing set screws on the pedal where they wont come loose. This key was designed by Ned Steinberger, creator of many innovative products for musicians.

Went to change some drum heads on my kit with this new drum key, and the rods kept getting stuck in the hole of the key. I managed to pull most of them out but then one got stuck octagonally (so the hole and the rod created more of a stop sign shape) and the magnetic pull was so much that I cannot get my rod out of the key hole. I have tried metal objects, banging the rod and key against a hard surface, and arm strength. I cannot get it out. I have to send it back with my rod attached, so now I lost a rod too. I think that's probably the worst possible scenario you can have with a drum key (short of someone throwing one at you and losing an eye). Maybe I just got a bad one or it's just not the drum key for me. But I have to return this. I would avoid it.

Pros
- Fast Finger Twisting
Cons
- Too Wide For Some Rods
Best Uses
Comments about Evans Magnetic Drum Key:
This key feels good in my hand and the tiny knob on top for finger twisting is convenient. The magnet works much of the time, but occasionally rattles, so I remove it for recording.
This can't be my only drum key because the tip is too wide to reach some recessed rods. In my case, that means I have to go to a less massive key for Mapex memory clips.
Comments about Evans Magnetic Drum Key:
I've been playing for the better part of 35 years and this is definately the best key I've used. From the magnet witin to the knob on the top, it works great. I have several and it's the only one I use.

Comments about Evans Magnetic Drum Key:
Bought this key a couple months ago. While the magnet isn't strong enough to truly prevent rattling, it's very easy to use. The ergonomic handle is very nice. One disclaimer: due to the nature of magnets, if you are a hard hitter, it is best not to keep this on your snare drum. As I realized after a loud practice session the other day, the continuous shock can demagnetize it. Still has a little bit of grab to it, though.
Comments about Evans Magnetic Drum Key:
This is one of the best drum tunners I've ever had. My one dissapointment was that it won't stick to my frige, though I'm not the one who ordered it. ( I got it for my birthday). I don't know, Maybe my parents ordered the wrng one, but anyhow, it's a great tunner anyway, and I keep it on a little shelf in our band room now. From reading the other reviews, it seems to be magnetic, (and from the advertisment), so I guess it's just mine. Order now!!!

Comments about Evans Magnetic Drum Key:
The Evans Magnetic drum key is, quite simply, the best drum key there is on the planet. I have kept my drum key handy on my floor tom, but the rattle for the last 40 years has been irritating. Rattle no more. The knurled knob is PERFECT spinner for installing or removing heads. Don't hesitate. Buy this drum key. It seemed expensive at first, and now I don't even remember how much it was.
Comments about Evans Magnetic Drum Key:
as far as your everyday drum keys are concerned, the key is substantial. it's not cheaply made, it's rugged and sits on my floor tom all thru my gigs. when i need to tune during a break, it's there for me.
Comments about Evans Magnetic Drum Key:
The magnetic feature is very handy. This is a good product.
Comments about Evans Magnetic Drum Key:
Good, Quality Drum key. The 9 in features is because, even though its magneticness is very useful, there are little decorative rings on the shaft that sometimes get stuck on the edge of the rim.
