I'm a drummer but I bought this used for a guitar stool. That involves 100% disassembly and cleanup, and that allows me to really look deep at this throne.

On it's own it's got everything you would want; it's padded well in the seat and even though it's used it hasn't bottomed out. The backrest fits perfectly in the small of my back and is very adjustable. The M/C seat spreads you a little if you're used to round seats. You can allow it to swivel or tighten it for none. All the adjustment knobs work perfectly and securely. The height spindle is made of sturdy threaded steel. It maxes out at about 26" high which is "OK", but I'm tall. The 3 legs give me ample support for my 280 lb, 6' 8" frame. I used to play in clubs, and with set up and tear down and travel, this product would easily stand up to that.

Please notice the spindle tensioner above the legs; THIS IS A GREAT DEVICE! This tensioner is almost 3" long and is made with threads inside and interlocks with the spindle, rather than just pressing a 1/4" bolt head against it like most others. That is a huge improvement over anything I've seen.

I'd like to offer a comparison to the Roc N Soc Throne with Backrest, as I also own that throne for playing my drums. Although this Gibraltar is great for the price, and the Roc N Soc IS more money, the Roc N Soc is a better built product, it's like the Gibraltar, but on steroids! It goes up to about 30", and it also has an overall bigger, thicker seat, and a much bigger backrest. The build and materials are superior overall, but they only make thrones. For ref, the hydraulics are extremely comfortable for playing drums which I noticed because the Gibraltar (and all others) are "static" and you feel that when you get up from playing. Before buying the R'N'S, I had an original 70's Rogers throne with a comfortable, 4" thick, round seat. Extremely strong, but the spindle and seat never locked together well so the seat was "rickety", plus no backrest, and that combo was murder, so I finally went shopping last year!

I think most people would be very happy with this product. The Gibraltar throne is a great value; designed and built well. Although there may be better thrones at higher prices, it's probably the best backrest throne for it's low price, but by no means is it a "low end" product.

Thanks for reading...Now go practice!

Well, I've owned one for about 5 years now. It may be short life span which has caused me to rate it so low, but there really isn't anything innovative about it let alone anything worth paying more than 70 bucks for. The back rest bends easily (again, keep in mind I'm a 5 year reviewer), cushion isn't flat, but it's not comfortable and the cardboard/plastic backing is starting to tear off. If you like freedom, you can expect to pick up bolts after a gig as they will wiggle out easily.Other then that, it's average and will get the job done if you can't afford a luxury seat.

Comments about Gibraltar Drum Throne with Oversized Motorcycle Seat and Backrest:

As a sufferer of chronic pain, it is hard for me to find a comfortable seat. It hurts enough to play, it shouldn't have to hurt just by sitting behind the kit. I tried out a bunch, and fell in love with this one. My only complaint is that I have pretty short legs, and wish the seat could go a tad bit lower, but I run into that with the very throne I try. The difference is, most of the others felt like I was sliding forward and off because I was sitting too high, whereas the Gibraltor doesn't make me feel that way. The felt seat is a large part of the comfortability, I think, which leads to a potential problem with future wear and tear as it is not leather, but I haven't had it long enough to find out, so this is pure conjecture.

Comments about Gibraltar Drum Throne with Oversized Motorcycle Seat and Backrest:

I got this as an alternative to getting a Roc N Soc, because those are so expensive, and Musician's Friend really had an excellent deal on this one. I would say that the Roc N Soc ones are the most comfortable that I'm aware of, but this is a really fantastic alternative. I really enjoy sitting in it, and the back rest is a huge plus, because I sometimes start to hurt if I sit upright for too long.

One thing I was concerned about was whether this thing was gonna be high enough or not, because I am actually using it as a keyboard stool. And I'm pleased to say that it can get plenty high enough for keyboard use. I would certainly recommend this for drums, keys, or any sit-down instrument.

I got a little confused while putting it together (which isn't uncommon for me), but once the picture came together, I became very happy with the product.

Comments about Gibraltar Drum Throne with Oversized Motorcycle Seat and Backrest:

I am not a drummer but was looking for a stool that would work for extended gigs. I have used it for rehearsals, practicing, and gigs, with guitar, violin, banjo. I had gone though several inexpensive folding stools that didn't hold up, were uncomfortable after 2-3 hours, or squeaked every time you moved. I can not speak to the longevity of this product as I've only had it a few weeks, but so far it has been great.
