Great sounding ash shells with a FREE 8" Tom.
The Gretsch Catalina Ash series has been designed with power in mind for the player who is looking for quality features without the high price. 6 thin plies of Ash wood are used to create a distinctive tone that cuts with projection and clear resonance; shell interiors are naturally finished. The result is a kit that digs in the groove with clarity and tonal separation. Shell pack only. Cymbals not included.
Toms are mounted with the GTS suspension system to allow every fiber of pure Ash tone to fully and freely resonate; 2.5mm triple-flanged hoops provide a strong tuning system and give a wide tuning range.
Each drum is fitted with stylish Mini Gretsch Lugs. The 22" x 18" kick drum is equipped with die-cast hoop claw hooks, very clean and functional.
With the cutting projection of the thin Ash shells, UV gloss finishes, and pro tom holders the Catalina Ash offers the looks and features of a pro kit without breaking your bank.
Cymbals and hardware sold separately.
Includes free matching 8" x 7" mounted tom and tom mount.

I got this kit for birthday last April and have loved it ever since. It's easy to tune, stays tuned, and can take a beating - and it does. I play this kit on a regular basis (3-5 times a week for 2+ hours at a time). Highly recommend it to all you drummers out there looking for the best kit in this price range.
Just wanted to let you other drummers know. I have a Gretsch 12" Catalina Ash rack tom, and also Gretsch Catalina Maple Bass, Floor and 10" rack tom.By comparison, the ash drum has -- of course -- a slightly different timbre to it than the maple drums. To me, the ash drum sounds like it has a more resonant fundamental tone to it. With that it also seems more sensitive to fine tunings than the maple drums.Personally I like the ash "tone" a lot, although the maple drums sound great too. The maple, I found, works out better with the "fat" tunings (where the resonant head is tuned low). I get weird overtones out of the ash tom, at certain points in the tuning range, one of those being the "fat" zone, so I have it tuned up from there.Bottom line, if you want a nice, but cocky, open sound out of your toms, go with Gretsch Catalina Ash, but if you want more tuning range, Gretsch Catalina Maple might work out better. That's my experience with these. Either way, Gretsch RAWKS!
I have played many drums. Pearl, Tama, Yamaha, and I started out on a CB set. After eight years, I was ready to upgrade. I LOVE This SET!! The shells are ash, so it's really warm sounding. I like a lot of toms, so, I love the full rack of toms instead of just two, you get THREE!! This is an awesome kit for the serious drummer!!
Drummer of 12+ years, I have owned this kit for a couple of months, replaced all the stock heads immediately with Evan's EC2s and An Aquarian Superkick 1 on the bass with excellent results. I did not yet use the ash snare, I use a cheap steel 3''x14'' piccolo snare with an Evans power center reverse dot, which really cuts through any mix as well as blends nicely with the ash. The tones out of the kit as a whole are very clean with short decay out of the toms. I have had expirience with some of the older and vintage Gretsch sets and although I like the older kits more, this kit accents well with any style of music. I have not had any problems with the GTS tom mounts rattling like others have stated. And if you do have this problem there is an easy solution, go to any hardware store and buy a roll of thin weather stripping, that stuff will help tons with any kind of sound manipulation, whether with rattling or overtones on the toms plus its cheaper than any solution you'll find at any music store. I'm just not a big fan of the floor tom, I'de rather have them mounted than legged. This kit is a beauty in deep red, looks like cherry red in my opinion. GROOOOVE ON!
This is a great little kit. You definitely get the most bang for your buck. I have owned Yamaha and DW both over the years and the Catalina line ranks right up there with the big boys. I am very happy with this instrument.
Looks: Outta the box, looks beautiful, I even painted my room to match it!!!Features: I wish there were a few more lugs on these drums, but how many lugs can you really fit on an 8" or 10" tom? Hence the 3.5 on features, but I don't mind.Sounds: Beautiful!!! These are the smallest yet BIGGEST sounding drums I have ever played! The kick is a monster cannon, and my 8" tom is my new favorite drum. As a kit overall, these drums are a Steal at this price, and a welcome addition to any stage or recording application!
These drums kick rump! I was looking for a 6-piece and when i found this, I thought, "well, it's the cheapest good looking six piece out there." so i bought it. And let me tell you, this drumset rules. I'm never changing drums ever. BUY THIS DRUM SET OR GLOBAL WARMING WILL PREVAIL!!!
The sound of this kit is amazing compared to any sets I have played. I like ash wood, many famous rock drummers are using ash wood sets in the studio now and I can see why they like it. The thing I like most about it is the price I got it at.
This set stood out to me with the free 8 inch tom...which with only four lugs sounds pretty amazing...the toms together blend perfectly with each other...and even the factory heads make this set sound studio quality right out of the box...if ur looking for a good set that won't dissapoint...THIS IS IT.....
The kit sounded awesome once I put ambassador and fiberskyn heads on. All drums are easy to tune. The 14" floor tom blends nicely with the toms. I love it. Very flexible, I can use a 4 piece for a small jazz club or the whole kit on a bigger stage. I didn't like: The tom mount was buzzing. The bass drums heads did not seat properly. Screws were loose on 10" tom. Great kit, definitely recommend.
