This Gretsch snare's maple hoops will give the full range of tones you deserve.
The Gretsch Full Range snare drum with Wood/Metal Batter Hoop features a 10-ply all-maple shell with 30 bearing edges. Both the batter and resonant wood hoops are contoured to enhance the fundamentally warm wood tones. The batter hoop also features a flanged metal hoop that is firmly affixed inside the wood hoop. The top of the Gretsch snare's metal hoop extends slightly above the wood hoop, so metallic tones naturally blend with warm wood tones when striking rim shots or rim clicks. The metal hoop on the Full Range snare also adds an extra measure of durability. The resonant-side contoured wood hoop is made without the flanged metal insert.
The Gretsch Full Range snare's resonant-side hoops have notches at the throw-off and butt-plate positions, which allows the throw-off mechanism to fully engage and disengage with ease. The snare drum's batter-side hoop is also notched to allow easy access to the throw-off lever. A Gretsch drop-style throw-off augments the functionality and visual appeal of this maple snare drum.

Comments about Gretsch Drums Full Range Maple Snare Drum with Wood/Metal Batter Hoop:
It's a great product with an incredible sound and quality. I'm only rating down the features because the hoops and throw off that came with the snare drum are not as the ones shown in the picture.
I was hoping for the Dunnett Wood/Metal hoops, instead I recieved ones with the Wood/Metal batter but not the Dunnett type.
Sound is really warm and sound amazing with or without the snares, also the metal inlay in the hoops adds a great click sound for crosstick aplications.
