      Sound Reduction, Does the Job

      By Cyclophenia

      from Findlay, Ohio

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Drum and Cymbal Mute Set:

Worth the dough, if you need to reduce your kit volume, for a minimal expense.
I purchased this pad set two years ago, in response to the neighbors becoming upset with a drummer living next door, and indulging in his past time. In that light, they have functioned excellently, if they are used properly.

First, the drum pads. The Tom and Snare pads do the trick admirably, you can hear the underlying tone of the drum but greatly muted. The material is identical to common mousepads, and if you've ever hit a mousepad with a drumstick, it does have a bit of bounce but nothing like a plain drum head. Good for strength building.

Second the Hi Hat and Ride Mutes. Excellent. They work great, as they are a rubber over sleeve, that fits over the cymbals tightly. Great stick control, but your ride bell is still uncovered, although if you do strike it (or exposed cymbal) it will make an audible "clack".

The Crash Mute is not as useful, although with some additional help it could function better. It is the same material as the drum pads, cut with a keyhole shape leaving a wedge area to strike at. It does not seat well on the crash, and this is the least muted of the bunch. Basically it mutes the crash after a short hit. It works, almost. They would have been better served to use the rubber sleeve for all the cymbals.

The bass drum muting system is unusual, in that it dampends the beater head with a foam block mounted to your drum hoop, with a rubber pad glued to the surface of the foam and braced with the mounting bar. When installed correctly, it works great. it lowers the db level of the bass drum as to not be really loud. You can have a conversation over it. The weak point would be the rubber pad, which when the glue fails it will come off. However, in the two years of owning this pad set, in a garage with minimal climate controls, and tons of double bass playing, it's still mounted firmly.
I think the cymbal pads are excellent as are the drum pads. The bass drum pad needs a better system then glue to keep it together, and the crash pad is practically useless unless modified.
For the price, you can play your drums nearly anywhere. Its not totally silent, but it's not a set of mesh pads and gum rubber cymbals either.

      Cymbal mute's sell this

      By Wes-6mpw1

      from 505

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Drum and Cymbal Mute Set:

I have owned a vic firth one and the pads for the toms are all standard on these kit. The tom mutes are perferct and a real work out to play on because of the lack of rebound. The hi-hat and ride cymbal mutes are top of the line and a definate must buy just for these things. The neprene crash cymbal mute does not really work to well and I expected it not to from past experience. I just hit the cymbal softer, but it does do a decient job just makes your cymbals sound terrible. The bass drum beater is a joke. The pad that the beater hits on just fractured after 3-4 hours of playing with my band. I really like the idea the beater just needs to be a nice rubber pad like the hq rubber speed pad material or something. The foam and the bar are really cool but the pad you hit on broke =(.Still a must buy to quite up the drums and make them bearable to others around you.

      Meh

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Drum and Cymbal Mute Set:

The Snare, Toms, and Cymbal mutes work very well, the bass drum however only lasted me about a month, it had been torn apart and now you can hear the bass drum as it was normally.

      these are great

      By Prodrummer

      from Chicago, Illinois

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Drum and Cymbal Mute Set:

I got these a very long time ago. They haven't broken, and they allow my to practice whenever I want. They make the drums a lot softer, but dont completely mute the drums. The only problem I have is the bass mute cracked, and isn't that good. But if you have a family and cant practice that much, these are worth the money.

      Almost does the trick

Comments about HQ Percussion SoundOff Drum and Cymbal Mute Set:

I moved into an apartment complex and needed someway to practice. I ordered this set hoping to eliminate the noise. It almost does the trick, but there are a few cons. It nearly eliminates any sound from the cymbals and toms. For the snare, you need to either drop the wires from the head or remove them completely. As for the bass pad, I've tried a few things to help, such as put a beer coozie on the beater, but it is still very audible. My next move is to put a glove over it.
