Comments about Ludwig Epic Snare Drum:

the only thing ive found wrong with it is the tuning lugs dont always like to stay tight.
i bought mine about 4 weeks ago and i absolutely love it. has a great sound. i just put a remo coated head on it and sounds sooooooooo crisp. absolutely love it.
i also like how thick the shell is.

        Its definantly epic

Comments about Ludwig Epic Snare Drum:

People that have negative things to say about this snare are not tuning it right or using the right head. I know its a personal preference thingbut im using an emperor x and a tight tuning and this snare gives me great tone and pop that sounds wonderful through recordings and cuts through live shows as well. The mahogany finish is quite beautiful and the brass hoops are high quality and eye catching. Everything about this snare is higher quality than its price. I tried this, a pearl masters, a tama metalworks, and a pork pie little squealer and this snare won.

        Ludwig Epic Snare Drum: Reconsidered.

        By drummist420

Comments about Ludwig Epic Snare Drum:

I previously said this drum was for beginners only. After playing it on the job for a few months I feel differently. It has a lot of sounds, works in all kinds of rooms, and is easy to play. Most of all, as advertised, it IS fat in the middle. My bandmates even like it. That's unsettling but what can you do?

        Ludwig Lunatic

        By Sgt. Schultzie

Comments about Ludwig Epic Snare Drum:

I purchased the "Attic White" model. Ahh, Lovely to look at. My friends thought it was really pretty. First of all, get rid of the factory Remo head. I replaced it with the Remo Power-Stroke 3, coated head. I kept experiencing a ring after the initial stroke. I removed the head and tightened up all the lug screws and hardware inside. That seemed to help the sound.Dont overtighten the snare side head. Keep it slightly looser. I stuck a couple of bandaids on the snare side head to reduce unwanted overtones. After playing and tuning, it now sounds like it should. This is a "Classic" snare drum. This is NOT the Black Beauty. The wood combination in the shell tends to produce a slightly dryer sound. Depending on which head you decide on, this drum delivers a warm, midrange/lower end sound, reminiscent of studio sounds of '50's/60's music,or what you played in the highschool orchestra. Try not to dampen the drum too much, get used to the authentic snare sound not often used in today's music.Although this drum is somewhat tempremantal, old Ludwig 'Lunnies like me appreciate the nostalgic sound.

        Records very well

Comments about Ludwig Epic Snare Drum:

I bought this snare solely for my recording studio. It has not disappointed me. I took it out of the box, tuned it up (medium tension), put a piece of moongel near the edge and proceeded to record several songs. The combination birch/maple shell produces a nice fat snare sound when using sticks. I switched to rods and the snare gave me just the mount of fatback beat and tone to give me that "vintage vibe" I was looking for. I'm even using the stock heads. This drum is a great value and a really nice alternative sound to the metal shell snares that come with a lot of kits. Plus, the vintage mahogany finish I got looks great.

        Good Snare

Comments about Ludwig Epic Snare Drum:

Def needs tuning out the box but once you get it tight enuff it sounds good. I prefer a lil bit of moon gel becuz there is alot of resonation, but to each his own... overall pretty good quality for the price just tune it to your liking and u should be good, just dont expect a super tight, high pitched "pop", more like a "plap"

        For Beginners Only

        By drummist420

Comments about Ludwig Epic Snare Drum:

Ludwig Epic Snare Drum. 61/2x14. Attic White. The white is a plastic covering. Looks good til you get close up. Disappointing. Tried several different types of heads. Always sounded pretty much the same. Kinda flat. Not a classic Ludwig sound. I have a dozen Ludwig snares from 60's-80's for comparison. These drums were made in Chicago. I would not recommend the Epic to a professional. However it is certainly a decent beginners snare drum. Not unplayable. This drum is made in China.
