As a verteran drummer of over 30 years, this is the kit I researched and have purchased for my 3year old daughter. This kit is the epidemy of a JUNIOR kit. I advise that readers and potential buyers this is a set designed for KIDS!!! Some comments about the kit are a direct result to not understanding how to tune a drum kit or that it is merely a starter kit. It will help young ones get a feel of a kit and drumming in general.
The hardware nor the heads are designed for the heavy feet and hands of an adult. Yes, an adult can play them, but long term or daily play is the equivilant of an adult riding their kids tricycle as their daily commuter to work. Things are going to bend, pinch, break, dent or what have you. This kit is not even close to the proper ergonomics needed to play as an adult... unless you like feeling your in a shoe box.
Having said this: tune the heads evenly and with not too much tension (just enough to allow the drum to sing. Tension just enough to remove the winkles in the head and then just a little more. (If you hear a cracking or popping sound as you tighten the lugs, it is totally normal and just the heads stretching). ... use the kids sticks and allow your kids feet use the peddals and this kit will last a very long time for you to hand-down or sell. It's not a throw away by any means!
DO NOT associate this kit with and rinky-dink constructed wanna-be you find at you local toy store or general retailer.
No I am not an endorser of Ludwig, but I feel clarification needs to provided in response to mis-leading reviews.
I feel this kit provides everything needed for the beginning drummer. The little things are what count. There are many 5 piece junior kits out there to choose from that include the throne, sticks, cymbals, stands and kick peddal. I like the metal CHAIN driven pedals. A big snare design, not some goofy mock up. The bass drum has real hoops and lug clips, again not some cheesy mock up. The snare is actually versitle, with pivot and height adjustments.
The hardware and construction are perfectly acceptable for 3-10 year old players. Cymbals are lacking quality sound, but it allows you to decide based on your childs' interst, whether or not to spend money on upgrades.
This is a good quality kit for the money.

The drums themselves are pretty sturdy, but the lugs rattle and squeak to the point that drums sound like they are meowing, and the heads suck, but by far this set's worst problem is the hardware.it has probably the worlds worst bass drum pedal (after about 5 minutes of play, the springs come off, and crouch down and put the springs back on. Then you can play for another 5 minutes, and so on. The throne isn't much better. On mine one of the legs was bent, the two pipes didn't fit together, and the little screw that allows you to change the height of the seat was stuck, locking it at one height. Simply, the hardware is abysmal. (I don't even want to go into the snare stand.) If you are young and looking for your first set, MABYE, but for anyone else, stay clear.

Comments about Ludwig Junior Outfit Drum Set:
This is a real drum kit shrunken down. It's a perfect size for my 5yr old and has room to grow with him. Came perfectly packaged in 1 box, everything you need to get started. He got a "first act" set last year for a gift; it was a toy, not laid out correctly and pretty terrible. I've seen videos on YouTube of adults jamming on this Ludwig kit and every review has been good. The drums are well made and feel professional, the lugs are solid, parts are in the right places, stands are pretty good, mounts are fine. No bad hardware, no stripped lugs, everything was good quality. You may want to upgrade the cymbals and pedals down the road, but not because they will break per se..they just aren't as nice/heavy duty as you could buy separately. I looked at all the other kids size sets and found this to be the best value on paper, I'm not at all disappointed seeing them in person. This is a fantastic price for a complete & totally playable drum kit. As a father I was compelled to review this because there are so many lousy products made for kids, unless you are a musician you wouldn't know better, just trying to help some non-musician parents out there.

Bought this for my son with his birthday/Christmas money. It was shipped with pieces missing and shipping damage. It's been in shipping limbo for a week both UPS and MF have been less than responsive I now wish I'd just bought at brick and mortar store. This is the first time I can remember being shipped something with parts missing and/or damage. You would think it would be a situation where the customer comes first. And I have a 10 year old that "hates" this company, way to build long term customer loyalty.

Shipped to Florida and forwarded on a boat to the VI. It arrived and the box was still solid, no damage. Santa delivered it and I set it up with the aid of my 8yr old. All the pieces were there and it was easy to setup. I'm a bass player but it's necessary to have my kids try each instrument to see which one they'll stick with and my 8yr old always liked drums. They're loud so be prepared. With the aid of the youtube setup and tuning guide and other drum instructions, he's already showing signs of greatness. All he needs to learn now are the 3 P's (practice, practice, practice). I love the set, it looks and sounds great.
Pros
- Fair Pedals
- Good Hardware
- OK Heads
Cons
- Cymbals Are Terrible
- Too Much Reverb
Best Uses

Comments about Ludwig Junior Outfit Drum Set:
Ive had this set for around 3 years and over that 3 years ive done some damage to it and its still standing so i can atleast say the hardware is good. the heads are useable but i would invest in some remos. the only real problem ive had over this last year is the cymbals. For instance; the bottom hat will turn inside out if you hit it too hard and the crash?ride isnt a crash or a ride. it also recently cracked. so i drilled a small hole in it (which most cymbals could take) and it ripped the metal. you would be better off using a piece of scrap metal. the snare has alot of reverb so i would recomend a damper. i would buy this for a child no older than 6.

Comments about Ludwig Junior Outfit Drum Set:
This kit soundsjust like a large kit. very good tone suprisingly, out of the heads that come with it. I added REAL cymbals to the kit..... the spring in the Hi Hat wasnt strong enough..... so I had to put a larger one in. Other than that very happy with the kit. As good as it sounds.... I could adjust everything to me and play it!!!

Comments about Ludwig Junior Outfit Drum Set:
I bought this set for my 6 year old son, he loves it he was playing on my full size set and getting him a set appropriate for his size I have seen a great improvement. The price was great and quality Is good. I replaced the heads immediately and used some extra cymbals I had laying around. The ones that come with the kit are useless.

Comments about Ludwig Junior Outfit Drum Set:
This is a very playable junior drum set for the price and it can be about as loud a full size one too. It was an easy set up right out of the box. I did have to consult the internet to learn how to tune drum heads but found this task to be about as easy as stringing my guitar. The kick drum sounds better with a large towel folded inside it. Our whole family has been having a great time with this set.
The weaket part of the drum set is the pathetic high hat and one crash cymbol.
I replaced them with a Zildjian 13" high hat and 14" crash. Since then I have been caught playing the set as much as my kids.
Comments about Ludwig Junior Outfit Drum Set:
Perfect set for a young kid wanting to learn.
The cymbals don't sound the best, but over-all it is a great set.
Short of buying a Wal-Mart set that no-one can really learn anything but noise on it is the best value for a great sounding drum set. Once we got the heads tuned in and got it all adjusted my little drummer sounded like Keith Moon in no time!!!
