Get a FREE 8" tom with a tom holder and mounting clamp!
The 8-ply, 7.2mm all-birch shells of the Mapex M Birch Standard Drum Set deliver an incredible high-end attack, a narrower midrange, and plenty of bottom end punch. The shells have an exterior maple veneer finished with 8 coats of hand-applied transparent lacquer. Complemented by the matching lacquered bass drum hoops, this kit has a gorgeous appearance that's sure to shimmer under the lights. The Isolated Tom System protects the shell's integrity and allows the toms to vibrate freely, ensuring maximum projection and resonance. OS cymbal accentuators create enhanced cymbal sustain, and the 500 Series double-braced Performing Artist hardware means your components stay in place, however heavy a hitter you are. Recent improvements include a boom stand with a retractable tilter and a footboard stabilizer for the bass drum pedal. Remo heads all around mean you're ready to go straight out of the box! Cymbals not included.

Outstanding quality, easy to set up, Hardware is sturdy and the price is spot on. Tuning is up to the user and the style he/she plays. Heads are not bad for right out of the box. Comes with an instructional video that is easy to follow. However, the video is based on a standard set so you will have to do some out of the box thinking when setting up your Floor Toms given the video addresses a single Floor Tom and stand vice the one that comes with this set. Enjoy, well worth it.
This is a very nice set of drums. The stands are nice and heavy feeling, and the toms are very nice. The lacquer finish on them is amazing. I put an Evans EMAD head on the bass drum, and it sounds very powerful and resonant. GREAT SET.
I've been playing drums professionally for over 20 years and have never had such high quality drums for such a great price. The attention to detail that Mapex puts into these drums easily outshines the competition. I've owned DW, Gretch, Yamaha, Pearl and these drums sound as good or better than any of them. They sound great out of the box and all you need to do is add cymbals. I chose to upgrade heads afer seven months to Evans EC2 and WOW!! These drums sound as good as my $5K set of custom DW's I have in the studio. I'd recommend these Drums over any mid range price set out there and quite a few higher priced sets(these blow my old PDP set away easy). If you're undecided on what set to buy Wait No Longer! Awesome Job Mapex!!!
I just got my M-birch in the mail the other day, and this kit is amazing. It's almost a pro level kit for an intermediate price. You can't beat the number of drums you get for the price, including the 8 inch free tom, your getting a 7 piece. And its not even a bad 7 piece at that, its VERY good quality. Even with the stock heads on the toms they sounded amazing, and its pretty fun just running up and down the 5 toms when you first get it. The snare head and wires can use replacement, but they are good enough to wear them out first then buy new ones. All the stands are very sturdy , I have the 8 inch tom and a HEAVY Gibralter arm clamped onto the same boom stand with a splash attached and I can wail on the 8 inch tom without fear of it falling over. I love how the sizes of the toms are fairly small, so I can position them MUCH lower and angeled much better towards me then I ever could on my old Stage Custom with the massive 12/13 inch rack toms. I really like the mounting system on the toms as well, took me less then 10 minutes to get all 5 toms in perfect position, compared to a lot longer on my old Yamaha. The floor tom holder is very nice as well, I can slam down on both floor toms and the only thing that slightly moves are the drums themselves. Overall this kit is just amazing for what you pay, you CANNOT get this number of drums of such good quality for anywhere near this price. You better get your set now before Mapex gets smart and starts charging more, because they are worth it!
It's been almost a year since I got my kit and I just can't get over how great this kit sounds and looks. I had stopped playing drums for almost 10 years and started again with a crappy 5-piece which was just what I needed to send me shopping. This thing was love at first sight! Thank you Mapex for such a great deal !!!
I ordered this set through a local music store, and the employees there could'nt help but set it up to get a look at it. When I came in to pick it up, everyone was commenting on how beatiful it looked, and when I began to play it, how amazing it sounded. One of my favorite things about the set is that my sticks bonce off the toms so seamlessly. My only complaint is that the cheap snare has an annoying ring, but all-in-all this is one AMAZING trapset.
These are great drums! The heads are cheap and the snare has an annoying ring, but just muffle it and it will sound good.
I was a little leary of buying such an expensive product online, but I had purchased from MF before and have alwayshad good luck. The Mapex M 7-piece kit arrived quickly, was extremely well packed, and had easy to follow instructions. I put it together in about 2.5 hours and it sounds amazing. That's with the Remo heads right out of the box. All of the hardware is heavy-duty just like the other reviews say. Every drum was easy to tune. Snare had a little buzz that went away with a muffling ring. You will be extremely happy if you buy this kit!
With an abundance of information available to anyone looking for it (Internet) its no surprise that the little guys are taking the good stuff from everyone else and finding cheaper ways to make the same product. So what now? Mapex is same quality as pearl.Well then you step it up make it cheaper, throw in an extra tom and provide great customer service. I was playing on a 3k dollar Pearl and picked these up as more my travel set. After playing them for 2 weeks I realized HOW MUCH BETTER this set is. Don't kid yourself and overpay for a name brand. Mapex WILL GET MORE expensive as more and more people discover this "secret" drum builder.
I purchased the Mapex M Birch 6-Piece with free 8" Tom in November of 2006. This company gave me extremely prompt delivery, everything arrived well-packed and undamaged, and the quality of the set greatly exceeded my expectations, especially for the price. I've replaced the tom heads with Evans G2's and E-rings, replaced the bass heads with Evans EMADs, and put Evans Sound Control heads on the snare. The set looks stunning (Cherry Red), and I have recevied great reviews on the sound of the toms. After 9 months of regular use, I have absolutely no regrets, and would, without hesitation, recommend the kit to anyone looking for a big set, with excellent quality, at a reasonable price. Mapex has made me a believer!
