Unfortunatley for Musicians Friend, they could'nt put together the "custom double bass" kit I wanted, so it was purchased from a Mapex dealer. I've been shopping for the last 3 months for a "maple semi-pro kit", and looked at them all...Pacific, Tama, Pearl, Gretsch, Sonor, Yamaha, and Ludwig. I read the shoot-out on these kits in last months Modern Drummer magazine to see how the pros rated them as well. This is it guys...I could have bought any one of these brands, and did my homework on researching the quallity of each of these kits. The only kit that could give me pro-quallity maple shells with breath-taking finishes, and solid heavey-weight hardware, at a reasonable price was the Mapex Pro-M Maple kit! Upon unpacking all the shells and hardware, I was continually thinking "OH MY GOD!!" Seriously folks...you need to see this kit and touch it. Mapex's parent company is KHS, a company that has been building musical instruments since 1930, so the quallity and finish of their products are second to none! I'm one very, very happy owner of a Mapex Pro-m Maple Studio 6 pc kit with an additional bass drum, and 13x9 tom tom. Heres the best kicker...Mapex gave me a FREE 12x7 Premium Maple/Cherry "Black Panther" snare drum! The msrp on this snare is expensive! Enough said! Oh yah...I fitted all the drums with Evans EC2's, E-Mad's on the kicks, and the sound {excuse me} MUSIC generated through these drums is overwhelming!! One more thing...no, I'm not a new-be. Iv'e been drumming for over 30 years! My advice is as solid as my new Mapex Maple!!!

I've had this set for about a year now and I've had no complaints at all with it. It sounds awesome and the hardware is top notch. I have the Carmel Fade set and evrybody has said how "pretty " it looks. I'll take that as a compliment. Sound great, look great set up easy and just an all around great value.

Mapex has proven itself as a top notch drum maker

By Andy-sRM06

These drums are great!!! Have had mine for over a year now and I could not be happier. I have the Blue Ice with Evans blue Hydraulic heads, very sharp looking. Don't be fooled by the price these maple shells are just as good if not better than better named brands like Tama,Pearl, ect...Very warm tone and shells are very heavy. Hardware is good and sturdy. Memory locks on the stands and mounts are great save you a lot of time adjusting. If you are looking for a great pair of maple drums for your buck BUY THESE!!! You can't beat them.

Pro shells, weak hardware

By Dick Marshall

from Central KY

The shells are beautiful on my caramel maple kit. I ordered an additional 8" tom and it took four months to get it but matched perfectly. The kick drum had a nasty staple on one of the hoops but I just put it under the kick pedal. The hi hat stand is a low rider, and the heads are not pro level, but the toms are as good as anything I have played. The kick was great out of the box, but when I put the evans heads on it it was everything I could want. A yamaha recording series kick for a lot less bucks. Excellent tone, beautiful finish. Buy the kit, sell the stands and enjoy.

I bought this kit last year and have since added 2 snares, an extra set of hats and several cymbals to it. This kit is good to go right out of the box.
