Hybrid wood shells mix musical tone and powerful attack.
The 5-piece Saturn Standard Drum Shell pack is crafted by the drum artisans at Mapex to match the finest, thinnest plies of North American maple with a selection of dark, rich walnut. The result is a beautifully handcrafted drum with a remarkably wide tonal range. When you actually sit behind a Mapex Saturn drum set and experience its performance, you realize just how incredible your playing can sound.
Every Mapex Saturn component on the SW525SU drum set is finished with 8 hand-rubbed coats of high-gloss lacquer. This unique finishing process gives the drums a beautifully deep, high-gloss, protective shine.
Mapex Saturn toms and snares are equipped with exclusive Mapex Powerhoops. Made from 2.3mm chrome steel, Mapex Powerhoops provide less resistance without adding unnecessary weight that may mute the drum. The tom drum's mount is secured via the lugs and is not drilled directly into the shell. The Mapex I.T.S. System allows the shell to vibrate freely, allowing for maximum projection and resonance. Saturn floor I.T.S. tom legs are isolated from the shell and include spring loaded feet, that enhance sustain and increase projection.
The Mapex bass drum's non-penetrating double tom holder features multidirectional adjustment for precise setup. The tom holder mechanism is also completely removable for players that prefer tom stands. Mapex Saturn non-penetrating I.T.S. telescopic bass drum spurs isolate the shell from additional holes and distribute the weight of the drum across existing lug mounts. All maple, lacquer finished bass drum hoops are secured by low-profile, cushioned bass drum claw hooks.
Mapex's low mass lugs are secured to the shell via only one point of penetration. Fewer holes in the drum shell means less vibratory interruption, resulting in truer tone and unimpeded resonance.
Cymbals and hardware sold separately.

Comments about Mapex Saturn 5 Piece Standard Shell Pack:
I got my first set of drums in 1973, as a kid, a really nice set of Maple and Fiberglass Pearls. I started with a 5 piece kit and over the years it grew to 14 pieces. Played them for the next 20 years. Then I bought a set of electronic drums so I could practice in silence (headphones). Another 20 years passed and with the itch to get back to my roots (acoustic drums) I began researching. And wow did I research. Articles, videos, testimonials, comparisons, I spent weeks reading, talking to music shop employees and professional musicians and listening before I decided on a kit. The world was my oyster and I could pick from any drum manufacturer and any quality kit (within reason) on the market. I gladly researched and listened to all the dream kits I had seen over the years from everyone, Sonor, Slingerland, Premier, Ludwig, Pearl, DW, and dozens more.
Now back in the day, the name Mapex was mostly known for low quality toy-like drums. Starters for people who didnt want to spend the money on a real instrument (at least that was my take). But wow have times changed. Even though I had a predisposition of thinking about this company and its products in a negative light, that all changed quickly and completely when I heard this kit. I was so blown away by the sound that I began looking for other examples and reviews. I was convinced there was something I wasnt getting as this wasnt a company on my dream list. I simply couldnt find a negative review nor a poor sounding demo of these drums. The sound was incredible, the construction was second to none, and the attention to detail like the virgin shell bass, the bearing edges, the mounting hardware, the cast hoops, it was all there, just like in those 10k kits, and when I matched the dream kits to this kit over dozens of Youtube videos, I actually preferred the Mapex Saturns! I actually tried to like the sound of kits from Pearl and Sonor and Tama better, but the truth was they simply didnt offer a product, at any price, that I preferred over the Saturns. Had I 10K to spend on drums, this is still the kit I would buy, and use the remainder elsewhere. I purchased them, purposely spent 2 days tuning them slowly and to perfection, setting them up, and adjusting to my preferences, and was rewarded by the best tone, feel, and experience I have ever had behind a kit. I truly believe I have found the last set of drums I will ever buy.
Comments about Mapex Saturn 5 Piece Standard Shell Pack:
over all I would highly recommend this set to any one willing to pay for it, sure you can buy lesser quality and have a bigger set, but once you hear a high quality set like this and play it, once you get the feel and responsiveness of this set, you'll never wanna play another set. since i got this set i just love playing so much more! its just fun to hear it and sit and hit it weather actually playing or just pounding out some Bohnam-esq drum solo / pound session!
this set comes with some great hardware, the tuners glide effortlessly but do not slide or detune when played for extended periods ( I would know I practice for like 2 hours at a time). the tom clamps are hexagonal although they fit round L arms very well, the mapex hardware is hexagonal to match so you may have trouble getting the exact angle your looking for but if you have pre-existing round arms they will be super adjustable. the floor toms come with "floating legs" this means they dont transfer vibration to the ground thus robbing your floor toms of tone and resonance.
these drums really sing! I have a 7 piece, and all the drums really project!
the 8 inch tom that I have really puts out with a focused sound with tons of tone. all the way to the lowest floor tom which puts the jungle in "jungle beat"
the snare drum is the most expressive ones I've ever played, there is a wide variety of sounds that you can achieve with one drum, so unless your not looking for a super workable drum id say possibly stay away, but who doesnt want a snare like that! the rim shots are nice and "cracky" with a pleasant little amount of ring to follow, but the snare is by no means over stepping its bounds.
THIS BASS DRUM IS AWESOME! litterally every time i hit the drum at any velocity it sounds nice and full, when played at full volume this thing sounds like a cannon, you can really feel it in your chest when your playing it. When played at a lower volume the drum still has all the tone of a full hit but with a more subtle attack and a higher resonance to attack ratio due to the decreased velocity.
the drums really are a joy to play although carrying them is a bit taxing as these suckers are heavy! all high quality could be heavy but these compared to the old set I played ( an all maple pdp CX kit) are about twice as heavy, so not only will you sound great but you'll look great from the exercise!
this set is right up there with other professional quality kits, its all expensive although I got a deal from a local drum shop in town here, although i would have gladly payed full price for it!
at that same shop I was researching other kits of the same quality the Ddrum sets are lacking in the hardware department, and from personal experience the pdp kits dont sound this good or have such great hardware on it.
