Beautifully hand-crafted drums with a remarkably wide tonal range.
When you actually sit behind a Saturn drum set and experience its performance--only then will you realize just how incredible your playing can sound. The drum artisans at Mapex match the finest, thinnest plies of North American Maple with a selection of dark, rich walnut. The Saturn is exacting enough for any and all studio applications and has been thoroughly road tested by nearly every professional artist on the Mapex roster.
Every Saturn component on the SW6225UTX set is finished with eight hand-rubbed coats of high gloss lacquer. This unique finishing process gives the drum a beautifully deep, high gloss, protective shine.
Saturn toms and snare drums are equipped with exclusive Mapex Powerhoops. Made from 2.3mm chrome steel, the Mapex Powerhoop provides less resistance without adding unnecessary weight that may mute the drum. The tom's mount is secured via the lugs and is not drilled directly into the shell. The Mapex I.T.S. System allows the shell to vibrate freely, allowing for maximum projection and resonance. Saturn floor I.T.S. tom legs are isolated from the shell and include spring loaded feet, that enhance sustain and increase projection.
The bass drum's non-penetrating double tom holder features multi-directional adjustment for precise set-up. The tom holder mechanism is also completely removable for players that prefer tom stands. The Saturn Studio's non-penetrating I.T.S. telescopic bass drum spurs isolate the shell from additional holes and distribute the weight of the drum across existing lug mounts. All maple, lacquer finished bass drum hoops are secured by low-profile, cushioned bass drum claw hooks.
Mapex's low mass lugs are secured to the shell via only one point of penetration. Fewer holes in the drum shell means less vibratory interruption, resulting in truer tone and unimpeded resonance.
Saturn drum kits include double-braced 750-Series Mapex hardware. Sturdy, flexible and surprisingly lightweight, the 750 Series is ideal for touring players. All Saturn tom toms are equipped with Remo Emperor drumheads.

I am an old road dog that has owned a Mapex Saturn kit for the past five years, these drums have done it all for me from recording to live performance. You cant beat the price for what you get. I thought that the single leg stands would be flimsey. They are not . They are good and strong. I use the hardware all the time its a great set. I can play just about anything I want and I chose Mapex and I am glad I did!!!!
My mapex saturn was a custom kit that I bought used from my local music shop. I was going to buy a brand new tama kit for cheaper but the salesmen talked me into getting this kit and I'm glad he did. This kit sounds beautiful, and I couldn't be happier. The only thing I'd like to change now is my hi hat stand. The legs get in the way of my double bass pedal so I have to posistion it farther away then I'd like to. It's next on my list of things to get. The kit looks and sounds great. I love the fact that this kit is a laquer and not a wrap.
I purchased this kit about 3 months ago, and I love it. I got the twilight stardust finish. It's a fade. Blue to a lighter blue. I also special ordered a 8inch tom. This kit is well crafted and sounds ever bit as good as it looks. This set is idea for all musicial application. This kit come with 2 ply oil filled heads.
I have had my Saturns for a couple of years now and they sound great live and in the studio. These drums are of very high quality and execptional value
I will be honest, I did not think too highly of mapex until I purchased this set. This drumset compares and personally I think is better than, Yamaha, Pearl, DW and Tama. The thing just looks classy, and it cannot sound bad. The walnut on the inside plies works wonders for the tone, there is virtually unlimited range for tuning. The snare is also amazing. Like the advert says, you sit behind a saturn and you realize how good your playing can sound. I was in love when I first played a groove on this set. There is just an amazing quality to this drumset, and it sounds perfect!Even though the drums are small, they still manage to sound big and fat, almost as if being miked up. The bass drum has the same effect. You seriously have to play this drumset in order to believe it's quality and sound, and I HIGHLY recommend this set and configuration. The icing on the cake are the finishes, my personal kit being in the galaxy burst color, which once again, has to be seen to believe.
