I just set my kit up today. Still tweakin on that bass drum sound but I am close without anything stuffed in the bass drum. This set sounds great and I would compare it to kits costing twice as much. the hardware is pretty nice but the pedals don't really work to well for my taste. The heads sound ok but im sure they will be replaced very soon. The keyword here is value and these drums are all that and a bag chips. the free cymbals offered currently are worthless but you could sell them for half value and put it towards your needs. I would recommend this kit to anyone from beginner to semi pro. Sure there are some better kits out there but the bass drum would cost as much as this entire kit. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and im sure anyone eyeing this kit will feel the same.

Great Set of Drums!!!

I love these and I don't regret it all!The burgundy is so beautiful and im very happy I got this set in that color!!The hi-hat stand, 2 pedals are crap though UTTERLY WORTHLESSYou literally have to jump on the bass pedals...But the set itself is enough to give it 10 all the way but be aware of the pedals and hi-hat.

Ask me a question

I have been playing drums for over 35 years and in those years I have played Ludwig exclusively. I just recently purchased this set and it is incredible. Afterm muffling the tom heads a bit, these drums really sound great! My last set had dual 26" bass drums and these Mapex 22" kick their ass. the hardware you get with it is very sturdy. I highly recommend this set to anyone !

I think that this is good Mapex quality. Other sets out there are good, but do not compare to the overall value and qulity this set has to offer. Maybe to make the features higher Mapex could add another cymbal stand, but otherwise just ROCK AND ROLL.

Great price, hardware, and just a flat out deal

By CaliDrummer

I got this set about a week ago, and it's so awesome. The stands are nice and heavy, so they won't fall over with a heavy ride on there. This is my second drum set, and it greatly surpasses the last one I had. There is a minor mistake in the description for this set however. It says it gives you one boom stand, when you really get two boom stands, and a boom arm that you can attach to the empty tom arm. Overall this set is great. The snare has that great pop that I've been looking for, and I didn't even have to buy it separately. If you're looking for a great double bass kit, you don't have to look any further.

The goods

By Anonymous

I got this set for Christmas in 03, it's held up great, not a single durability problem. My one complaint is that it didn't throw in an extra cymbal stand. But for the price and for what you get, that wasn't a problem. Maybe get yourself a more personalized snare (but no complaints with the given one), and some good Evans heads and you're set for a long time.

What a great kit!

By lxfischer

I got this set about a week ago,and I was impressed with them as soon as I took them out of the box.Boy are they perrtty!I got the silver and they look sharp.I replced the heads with Remo pinstripe heads and used a torque key to tune them and they sound fantastic.I've spent the last ten years playing Yamaha, and these sound as good-if not better than those much more exspensive ones.I would whole-heartedly recomend this set to anyone with a budget, novice or pro alike!

Great Double Bass kit

I just got this kit yesterday and set it up and it looks and sounds beautiful! The black glossy finish shines nicely. The hardware it comes with is great, except the pedals and hi-hat stand. Yes, they work fine and they do the job, but they're not the best. The cymbal stands are awesome and the tom holders are great. All in all, though, this kit is great and I would recommend it to anybody.

Mapex Rocks!

By Anonymous

I bought this set when it first came out a few years ago, as a 7 piece, and have since added to it. I now own a few Mapex V-series kits. For what you get, and for what you pay, I have to give it an overall score of 10. The kit sounds and looks great! I play very hard, and this kit stays in tune and I have never had any problems with ANY of my Mapex kits. This is not a top of the line Mapex, but you would never know it! Well worth it!!

A great metal set.

I've played with this set for about two months now, and I must say I'm impressed. It takes a while to find a good sound out of the toms, especially the 10 incher. The cymbal stands are actually my best cymbal stands I own, and I have some other 75 dollar stands, and they blow them out of the water. The pedals suck horribly though, you have to jump on them. But, I had a spare double kick pedal from my old set. So, right now I'm using that. The snare isnt too great yet, so I'm still using my old one, but, hey peral snares are nice anyway. But, this set is a good buy for the price.

I've been using a tama kit for the past 5 years and i decided to try something new. this kit's appearence totally blew me away. i don't care what anybody says this is a purdy kit! anyways...this kit sounds great! took a while at first to tune the toms but that is the only complaint i have besides that it doesn't include another cymbal stand!

Tight Set

By TechDrummer78

from Ann Arbor, MI

I purchased this set used for cheap. I havent played drums in quite some time and I wasn't to sure about spending alot of money on a realy nice set but when I found this set at a local music shop I had to pick it up. I play alot of double bass and saw that it came with all that it came with. Outstanding. This set is definently worth the money used or new. I was just fortunate enough to find this so cheap! If you are looking for a set you can practice with and play at shows this is the set for you.

Awesome set. Awesome price. I bought this set looking for the extra power of two bass drums and I am very pleased with what I got. Everything, excluding the mediocre pedals, is heavy duty and excellent quality. As mentioned before, I particularily like the bass drums. The snare is good, but you might want to get something more custom.I was previously not a Mapex fan but this set made me a believer.

Awesome set

By Anonymous

I am 17 years old and am an avid drummer, and I have to say that this is the best set out there for the money you pay. The bass pedals are kinda cheap, but they work I guess. The drums sound ok with the factory heads, but I put some aquarian ( sp? ) performance II heads on there, and it sounds godly. I also would recommend that you buy a couple extra boom stands, because it only comes with 2 or 3 cymbal stands. All in all, this set is totally worth the money, and it looks and sounds awesome.

My friend has this set and i must say its absolutly amazing.... that is once you replace the heads and bassdrum pedals. If you enjoy playing double bass, this is deffinatly a good set to get. The hardware it comes with is not the greatest but it works... i guess.

The Arctic Monkeys sure can play

By Do you look good on the dancefloor?

from London, England

When I first saw this kit I was astonished by the great value for money Musicians Friend offere. It takes up a surprisingly small amount of space (not much more than my old Pearl Export) and the noise is very rich; it sounds a lot more expensive than it actually is. The toms have a crisp and clean sound which compiments the snare perfectly. The only thing I would say is that the bass drum pedals are quite fragile; I recently upgraded mine. Other than that, a really good job! Mapex kits rock!

This set is a good deal. I bought it last summer and i have used it for two gigs. It has good hardware on it. I think it will last for a while. I put my old double footed bass pedal on it and it sounds good.........

Awesome set!

By Progrockmusician

from Bristol, TN

Just purchased this set after years of not playing. Primarily use for studio applications. Played Slingerland and Ludwig in the past and I must say that this Mapex set is outstanding, especially for the price. The hardware is very good except for the bass pedals. Buy a pair of Tama Iron Cobras like I did and you will be set. The sound of the drums is more like a very high dollar set. Being used in studio environment, I muted the heads a lot and the stock heads are fine that way. If not muted, you might want to change to a better head. Overall, this is the best set I have ever used. They sound good, play good, and look good. What more could you ask for under $****?
