Comments about Mapex Voyager Ltd Ed SRO 5-Piece Drum Set with Cymbals & Throne:
Keep in mind, you will definitely want to replace the snare and bass drum heads as soon as you get the kit. The factory Remo's on the toms are good enough to use for a while as long as you put some tone rings or moongels on them. The cymbals are, well, cymbals, nothing to praise really, they kinda suck, but what do you expect, the whole kit costs less than a set of mid grade Sabian's alone. The bass pedal that is included is very basic, consider replacing that to suit your playing style. I ordered the Tama Iron Cobra Jr.s double pedal with the kit, so in all honesty, I never used the included pedal at all. All things considered, I could not be happier with the decision.
Based on price alone, you get more than you pay for. Shells are sturdy and produce almost maple like tones. Hoops are basic stamped metal, but do the job. One warning: The description says "5 piece cymbal kit", but you only get the hi hat (2) a crash (1) and a crash/ride (1), so it is really just a 4pc.
The kit is well built, what keeps this from being a 10 is the finish. While I understand this is not a high end kit, and thus NOT painted, they could at least trim the ends of the wraps so they do not overlap.
This is my first kit, after playing guitar for more than 20 years in bands, I decided I want to play drums... Anyway, this is certainly much more than a beginner kit, and should suit me well for several years.
