OVERVIEW

A pocket-sized but potent drum with enough heart to be your go-to snare.

Possessing a mix of fury and deadly precision, this 12" x 5-1/2" 6-ply maple/walnut shell of the Mapex Warbird Snare delivers an intense, dark punch when tuned low and an explosive pop when cranked high. With addition of the SONIClear Bearing Edge the sounds that this drum produces can be described as biting, powerful and quick.

The snare is also fitted with Sonic Saver hoops that dramatically reduce stick wear and enhance resonance. Additionally, a cylinder-drive strainer provides smooth adjustment by way of a self-lubricating bearing and "mirco-lock" technology.

This Mapex Black Panther snare drum features stainless steel snare wires for crisp, lively action.

Comments about Mapex Warbird Chris Adler Artist Inspired Black Panther Snare Drum:

So i have been watching out for this particular snare for some time. I own the first chris adler snare drum as well and wanted to make sure and check this one out. It arrived on my doorstep today and this is what i experienced when i opened the box. The snare comes in a black velvet like bag with a fold out and a pretty nice pic of chris in a small booklet complete with his actual signature. The snare is actually pretty heavy and beefy. Ill go over things in points..

What does it look like in person? It has an amazing walnut stain that is rustic looking and natural to the touch. not a slick laquer but natural wood with stain on it. It reminds me of an antique pocket knife like my grand dad carries around. However... The engraving on the one i received is not a full engraving. more of a pattern under a thin layer of wood. like you can see the ink from a stencil but its under the wood with places etched out not engraved fully. The full twin eagles are there though but it looks like it was a bit rushed compared to the video of the one chris is showing. It's not a deal breaker but c'mon finish the job mapex! (look at the pictures of the engraving closely)

What is the hardware like? Brushed sonic saver hoops and these look gorgeous with the walnut stain. very nicely done all over. the throw off works like butter and is pretty sturdy with the setup i use.

Yeah yeah .. but what does it sound like ? Like a beast unleashed. Tuned high you can get that crisp crack that honestly sounds like a gun going off in the house. and that is no exaggeration. Tuned low it has a pretty dark but still loud pop to it but crystal clear. Even ghost notes it was so responsive. even the most subtle ghost notes were audible and warm. I ran it through various tunings and it sings on each one. the thing is pretty quick to tune as well. I have to honestly say you could use this snare for anything. Pop, rock, blues ,jazz, roughly anything that needs a beat this drum would fit in nicely. I did try it mic'ed and without and actually enjoyed both ways. I have been asked if it is just a copy of the old model. with my ears yes and no, It's an evolution. you can still get the sound of the old one out of this one, but when you start cranking it up its a whole new animal. Buy this drum.

Comments about Mapex Warbird Chris Adler Artist Inspired Black Panther Snare Drum:

This snare drum I bought mostly because Chris Adler is my favorite drummer, and I have watched videos and read many interviews regarding this snare. At first I was hesitant about it due to the fact I never tried such a small snare but on the first hit, all of my doubts were gone. The only thing I didn't like simply was the tuning right out of the box. When is that good anyway? Lol. I tightened it up using my ear only. I took it to a medium-high tuning to start and then took a few hits and realized that it CRACKS! Rim shots (or should I say gun shots!) honestly made me lose hearing in my ears for a couple seconds at times. It is very versatile too with it sounding good and punching in a lower tuning, as well as a medium or high tuning. If you really crank it, it can almost sound like a marching snare. There's so much to say about it and so little not to like. No moongels or dampening needed either! Very easy to tune. The stock heads are good too. Aquarian Hi-Energy batter side, with what I believe Aquarians standard resonant snare side head. The same combination Chris used up to 2015. Chris is now with Evans, so I'm assuming at some point this snare will come with Evans heads. the snare itself gives a good, natural overtone and I have never really liked much overtone on snares, but on this one it is a must. Moongels to me seemed to really take away from this drum's full potential. The longer I play it, the more I love it. Well worth the money!
