Comments about Meinl Byzance Jazz Medium Thin Ride Traditional Cymbal:

Always a proponent of buying cymbals in person, but I've been a huge Meinl fan since around 10 years old, and have owned cymbals from pretty much every Meinl Line. This cymbal is gorgeous sonically and aesthetically, but was not what I needed in a ride. The stick definition was lacking without becoming too washy, and the bell was almost distant sounding (due to the thin variety of the cymbal, hitting the bell creates some wash/overtones as well). Chalk this 4-star review up to me not playing the cymbal in person beforehand, because this cymbal would be absolutely perfect for a drummer in a "big-band" scenario where you need to fill the air with ride-goodness. Thought I'd write a review to steer any drummers that aren't ALL jazz ALL the time, for which I'd recommend the MB20 ride, or the Soundcaster Custom line.

Comments about Meinl Byzance Jazz Medium Thin Ride Traditional Cymbal:

LOVE this cymbal. I switch out between VF 8D's (something with an 8 in it) and Peter Erskin sticks and with little sticks like that, the stick definition that you get, along with the response is beautiful. There's also a very nice wash to it as well that lingers in the background. Very subtle, and the bell sounds mellow, which is usually what i'd just prefer. Hate the sound of rides with brutal bells. Only thing is you cant crash this, but if you hit the bow of the ride harder than you would normally, you can some awesome wash going that fills the air.
