Review of Meinl Talking Drum

By Alphonso

from Washington, D.C.

Comments about Meinl Talking Drum:

I have used the Meinl Talking Drum for about 10 years and have found it to be an invaluable addition to my percussion set-up. It is durable, responsive and the tone is loud enough to cut through jams and drum circles un-miked. In the last few years I have replaced one of the heads, and the stick which lost its curve. The wooden rim recently cracked, but I glued it back together and it is fine so far. Ordering a new rim from Germany would have costs as much as a new drum. The drum has survived two trips to Cuba where musicians had never seen one like it, and I intend to purchase another one just for gigs.

Comments about Meinl Talking Drum:

I was pleased with how easy it was to to change the pitch of the drum. The only negative is that there is a little "head squeek" and the synthetic head sounds synthetic. Overall, the drum is fun to play and should last a long time.
