As a drummer with many years of experience, I recently bought the PDP CX kit in silver sparkle and I must say that this kit has blown me away! I have owned a lot of drums in the last 30 years, including my prized DW kit that I got 2 years ago..Anyway, I got the CX's and set them up next to the DW's in my studio. Here were my initial notes: The CX kit out of the box sounded SO close to the DW's...I remember thinking that wow Don (Lombardi) and John (Good) of DW have done a great job at this one!! Upon urging from a DW rep that I met at PASIC show here in Columbus, I went and got new heads for the kit as the stock heads will get you started but are no-means the quality that you can get with REMO's or EVANS, etc...I went with a smooth white Emporers on the batters with clear Ambassador's on the bottoms... Now one thing that I want to point out here, I personnally do not like a double ply head on my DW's as I think the thin shell sounds better with a single ply ( I use coated Ambassadors on the batters with clears on the bottoms) However, with the Pacific having a tad bit thicker shell, the smooth white Emporers/clear Ambassadors combo sounds just incredible....Back to the DW/Pacific comparison with head change....The drums just sing! Its a little different sound than the DW in character, but definitely a kick-butt professional sound that if someone put the same price tag as the DW's on it I would say that it would be justified. Here's the conlcusion I can make IMO...you DO NOT have to spend 3k and up for a DW (unless, you want to have a very customized kit with great re-sale and have deep pockets) kit when with a simple head change you can attain a sound that will completely blow you away with the Pacific CX/LX line....see for yourself :-) The CX kit would also be a great go-to kit for a drummer that wants awesome sound but does not want to lug their prized and expensive kit out to play live exposing it to the elements...I hope that all find this review helpful...if you happen to have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.orgHappy drumming!Cobe

I have owned a pacific CX silver sparkle kit for a year now, and for the most part it is a good sounding kit. I do have some complaints, however. When I received the kit, the bearing edges on the 10 and 14-inch toms were TERRIBLE, with lots of chunks taken out of them. Because of this, I had the toms shipped back to Mexico to be re-edged. Guess what? The factory didn't get it right the second time either, so I had to resort to having the edges professionally re-cut by a third-party custom drum maker. Now, of course, the toms sound great. However, I have had trouble getting Remo Emperor heads to seat on the drums effectively, so if you normally use Remo heads you might want to keep that in mind. The snare sounds OK, but getting all the overtones under control is a hassle. Make sure to keep the tension rods lubricated. Otherwise, they will get stuck and snap in half while you're trying to tune the drum.Pacifics are a pretty good set of gigging drums, although I think the factory's quality control is not up to par. Save yourself the grief and get a set of Tama Superstars for around the same price.

I have owned this set for a little over a month. When I went to Guitar Center to buy I was definitely not expecting to get a set that sounded this good for this cheap. The toms and bass sound phenominal, (the snare sounds great too it just doesnt have the exact sound that I prefer.) If you are someone who is looking for a drumset that sounds like a professional drumset and not wanting to spend all of your money on it, this is the way to go!!
I bought this set last year when I was deciding between this and a tama rockstar set. I made a good choice, this set is amazing for the price. It plays like a DW. But it does need new heads(evans hydraulics for the toms, and evans emad for the kick) like any other new set. And if you know how to tune you can get the snare to sound pretty good, but it definitely needs a new head as well. Overall this set is worth every penny.
I have the white onyx set. The hardware isn't bad at all. The only problem I've had with the set is the snare drum. I have tried to tune it for hours on end, and still can't get it perfect. I think the shell may be cut wrong or warped a little.
I've owned this set for about a year now and I couldn't be happier. The 10" tom is especially good. This set produces a nice, warm tone. I wouldn't recommend remo for the the snare head. The stock heads aren't too bad. I say beat those up first and then buy new ones. Buy this set, you won't be disappointed.
I have owned this set for about two weeks and I love it. This is nothing lacking from this set. I love the fusion size and the sound I get from the toms with remo pinstripes. I totally recommend this set to anyone. Buy One!
I just purchased this set for myself to get back into drumming (after an 8 year vacation) and so that my 10 year old sone can learn. What a great kit. The hardware is excellent, the toms and bass are great, but the snare is a little lacking compared to the rest of the kit, hence the 9's above. I added all DW 5000 series hardware (including their awesome double pedal and mathcing Hi-hat stand) as well as 6 Zildjian Custom A Cymbals. WOW!!! This kit is so much better than my last kit 15 years ago. I just added the 16" floor and the 8" tom for a complete 7 piece set. My next investment will be new skins, especially on the snare. Both my son and I are looking forward to having lots of fun!
This is the Best I've ever had. The mounted toms have such a good sound. I've had this kit for about 7 months and I can't complain about anything. The hardware is great and is very sturdy. I love pdp.
My older brother got this kit back in 2000-2001 and boy is it amazing. Anyone who buys this new is unlucky because they replaced the original snare with a cheap metal one. The original snare was an all maple shell and it is GODLY. You can definately see the DW/Pacific resembleance here. Put nice heads on this, oil up the lugs and you have an amazing drumset rivaling almost any other drumset. PERIOD. :-P
The PDP CX drum set has the ?Dan the Rock Star? stamp of approval! I am a big Keith Moon fan and I bought my Premier drum set in 1982 and thought it was going to be my last drum set. I sat behind the CX drum set and fell in love with the sound and the price. I added the 8? and 16? toms. These drums ?sing? when you play them. I use this set in Play Houses for Musicals. It makes the musicals sound more professional. The actors always comment on how well these drums sound and they don?t over power the singing, it adds to the song. The sound techs don?t yell at me for being too loud or annoying. They like hearing these drums through their headphones. I?m addicted to playing them because they sound so good. The only disappointing aspect is the quality of the finish. It?s a nice finish & color, but it looks like there is dirt in the glue when they put the laminate cover on the drums. You can see the dirt bulge through the cover. Sometimes I focus on the dirt marks and can?t understand why the finish is not smooth like all other drums sets. Over looking the smoothness of the finish, you will love the sound. The other nice feature is how easy they are to disassemble and reassemble. I?m making fewer trips to the car because they are easy to carry. They are very versatile also. I can set the drums up for nice quite jazz using ony the small drums or set up for heavy metal with the larger drums and leave the small drums at home. I highly recommend the PDP CX drums. You will sound like a Rock Star!
Wow...This drum set is incredible. Just purchased it today and when I first played it and hit the toms it attacked really well, left the sound rumbling for a good while because of the maple. Compared to my old set which I rate a 2 out of 5. The only thing is the stock heads don't really give that deep sound so I got Remo Coated heads. I bought the set which was orignally a 5 piece but it came with the 16' floor tom which is a +. I bought it with out the pedals or the cymbals since I had my own and only bought the toms and bass drum. WOW...
