    Great for the money :)

    By ERIC LINDBERG

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set:

Get Carbon Black cause it looks AWESOME!!
They come with everything a beginner needs for a drum set. It could use a ride cymbal but you have to remember the price of them.
The drum heads still are as good as they were the first day i got them and my drum set is a year old. The crash cymbal and high-hat are not the greatest but they are not as bad as people say. It is well worth the money to buy this drum set. They dont age at all and the wood is still fresh. The drums give off a really nice sound too.
It is well worth the price to buy these drums!

    good beginner set

    By Andrew Kalstrom

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set:

Overall, a pretty good deal. I tuned them up as best as I could and got them sounding pretty decent. I muffled the bass drum with a pillow and bought - and this is KEY- MOON GEL! Those little globs of blue gel - 4 of them - made a HUGE difference in the way these things sounded! It's like they absorb any crappy sounds coming from the drum and just kill it, leaving only the sound you want. If you order this set, which I would recommend if you are a beginner, buying for a beginner or just don't have much $ to spend, BE SURE to spend the extra $ and get a box of moongels. (Or 2 - you can put them on cymbals too).
not too many bells and whistles here. This is your basic set for a beginner or a basement rocker like me who doesn't have whole lot to spend on musical equipment.
For a first set or just a jam room set, it does the job. I've read a lot of reviews that say the cymbals are terrible, that they sound like tin cans or frying pans or whatever. True, they're not Zildjian or Paiste or any other top brand, but for the price, you get hi-hats and a crash (which they called a crash/ride - and it AINT no ride folks). That's about as good as you'll find on a budget and they don't sound as bad as some would say.
A 5 pc drum set with basic cymbal set and hardware at this price? You can't beat it.

    Great for the price

    By John Dotson

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set:

This kit is great for a beginner or someone on a budget. I wouldn't shy away from this kit even if you are a seasoned player. You can't expect amazing quality, but it's no piece of junk either. Just be aware that you need to switch out the heads.
Over all, comes with everything you'd need to get going aside from cymbals and accessories.
Let's face it, at this price point you're not going to get great quality. The heads are awful. Upon looking at them I immediately bought new heads without even trying the ones it comes with. The hardware also leaves a lot to be desired. However, with that said, after putting on new heads and tuning it I was pleasantly surprised at the sound. Mic'd up, the kit sounded nearly as good as a kit 3 times the price.
With care and new heads this kit is a great buy. I can't imagine finding a better value in a new kit.

great drum when put with good drum heads

    By Ela Flores

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set:

The drum heads and cymbals that come with it aren't the best but if you replace them, the drum will be better, the drum itself sounds great, if you put better drumheads on them, like remo's or evans.
great for a starter drummer. it works fine. it doesn't fail.
    The price is good.

Good Starter Kit: you get what you paid for.

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Drum Set:

Since no one made a review on it, I just wanted to inform other starting drummers. Its a kit where you'd get yourself or child to see if drums is really for them. A normal intermediate kit would be around twice the price, more or less (without cymbals). When I was desperate for a kit and my dad said this price or less. The only set cheaper than this was Junior sets or Sound Precussion's kit. I read reviews top to bottom (most giving 5 stars) and made my choice with this.

This kit does not include cymbals. It may be obvious for some of you but when it was my first time looking I just looked at the picture. So, without cymbals it gave me an excuse to buy a cymbal pack. Starter cymbals are usually Zildjian ZBT, Sabian B8s, but I got a Meinl pack since it included a china.. haha I'm 15 and built the kit myself since my parents were at work, its pretty easy since it comes with a dvd.You will have to change the heads after a while, I beat them around for 9 months and got the Remo fusion propack (Fusion means the sizes 10, 12, 14 etc.). Sounds okay, the 10" tom sounds higher in pitch than I wanted though.. And guys fiddle around with the hardware! I kept finding new stuff that I never even bothered to look at like the tom height, snare basket, a bunch of stuff, just look around. Well good luck! sorry it was long!
Pretty much includes everything you need to get started except cymbals. I would suggest buying a cymbal pack instead of the one that says "with cymbals", it sounds like tin cans. Tuning is VERY important you guys. If youre one of those people that thinks tuning is for losers and I just want to play, then I doubt youd be a very good drummer. Drumming takes patience and practice like any other instrument, not something you bash and think youre cool. Look up online for some helpful tips.

Also, for any future Double Bass players! you cannot move around the legs of the high-hat stand. "Why does that matter?" you ask? Because since you can't move it, one of the legs will be in the way in the second bass pedal. I tried all sorts of ways to get it closer, I had to end up buying hardware from a friend from his Tama Imperialstar since he quit drumming. If youre not planning on getting a DB then dont worry.
Hey the at the price it does not cost much at all compared to a normal one. But in all honestly, this is not that bad. I bought one of the First Act cymbal stands from my friend and its rusty and very poor. But my cymbal stand in the picture kinda chipped off on the top but using it for 9 months and puting on a heavy 20" ride I cant complain. Its just that now I cant screw it in with a wingnut. The material they used is called "hardwood"..no idea what in the world that is but its not amazing. Usually maple or birch is more commonly used but they can get quite expensive. I don't mean to bash on this kit so harshly but I'll just say you get what you paid for. And its not bad.
I needed a cheap kit and this came to my rescue. Sound quality is not going to blow you away but you can prevent overtones by putting some Moongels. They work really well.
