I couldn't be more happier with this set. I mean, grant it, stock heads don't last long and the cymbals are terrible, but with head, cymbal, and stand upgrades, money is being saved along the way. Yes, I would love to have a DW drumset, but this PDP Z5 series set keeps blowing me away each time I sit down and play!
Great set of shells for the price. I will admit (and complain) that the hi-hat stand isn't the greatest since the nut comes loose and you have to tighten after each little jam session, but that's why a hi-hat stand upgrade is soon on the way! Lol! Bass drum has good low end for being on the smaller side of bass drums.
This is a beginner's set, but I honestly believe the shells will last and project a very good sound no matter what heads you prefer. I prefer Evans EC2 on top and G1's on the bottom, both tuned to each other.
I think paying this much for good shells is almost a steal. Yes, I know that if you pay more for different types of wood, you get different sounds and such, but if you're looking to save money and have a drumset, this is it!

Bought a set for rehearsal. As I found out, with the right heads, you can really get great sound.
Opaque heads with dead ringers work best.
Drums become responsive with time and tuning them down afterwards keeps the heads lasting longer (Just like guitar strings).
When the opaque finish begins to come off, replace the heads and you'll be back in the swing of things.
When you get to rehearsal, tune the heads like you normally would and your kit begins to have a certain feel as to how you play (Responsive).
The sounds that come from each set depends on how many plys the drum kit has. That's why I have 3 sets of drums.
This kit is good for small venues like lounges and bars. Sound bounces off the dry or brickwalls like crazy. However, if you record, you'll have to retune the kit according to the acoustics around you.
Everything depends on what you do and where you perform.
I have 3 sets. One for concerts (thousands of people 40K-75K), another kit for club venues (400 to Several Thousand People) and this kit for small places (50 to 200). Each drum kit is designed with different specs to produce a unique sound.
Like I said... "Everything Depends On What You Do" and "Where You Perform."

Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Shell Pack:
I am a new drummer, This is my very first set. I am a fast learn so i am ready to move on to a better set already. I have had this set for this set for about 2 to 3 months and I think it is a Fantastic! beginner's drum set. I do recommend replacing the batter heads on at least the toms. i used the Evans Hydraulic Fusion Drum Head Pack, and if tuned just right you can get some amazing sounds. All in all, if you are looking to get a decent beginner's set or even practice set without putting a hole in your pocket. I highly recommend getting this.

I would suggest this to ANYONE that wants a drum set that doesn't already have one. I guess if you want to be a brand snob, go ahead and get a Pearl or whatever. Frankly, they are all made in China, so why pay more for a name???????
People complained about the crappiness of the heads, so I bought Remo's straight away. I had a free cymbal pack (Stagg cymbals) that I absolutely beat the crap out of and they are still kicking....but they are pretty thin. The hardware is, to my novice eyes, solid.
These drums are absolutely gorgeous. I bought black heads to match the black body...very evil look.
You pay more than this, you are an idiot.
Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Shell Pack:
I have had this set for nearly 2 years now and it is great. For years I played a 1300 dollar Gretsch Maple. A serious kit. When I was forced to get my own kit, I got what I could afford, which was this. I could not be happier. It played great with everything that came. Heads, cymbals, stands. It was all good enough, especially for the price. When I changed my heads and got a few cymbals and stands, this became so much more than a beginner kit. This kit sounds amazing. The only really problem I had was the cymbals were absolutely terrible after 2 weeks of playing metal, and the high-hat stand falls down all the time. Like, the nut comes loose and the two cymbals clamp together while I'm playing. That could be my own error, but. Overall, amazing kit. With some simple adjustments it becomes so much more than just another beginner kit.

good beginner set, but you might wanna consider saving for a pearl
The heads you get are really cheap. The crash cymbal I got sounded like I took a metal trash can lid and stuck it on a cymbal stand. The hardware is pretty good. No problems with my pedal, hi-hat stand, cymbal stand, the tom... holder thingy... their drum key works fine.
heads are pretty cheap sounding and the cymbals sound like metal trash can lids.
if you're a beginner drummer learning drums, it's worth its money.

I've played Ludwigs for 40 years. I saw these drums, pdp by DW on your internet site and I was surprised to see they were only,$249.00, and I know DW is the best drums sold these days. I finally bought them, these are one of the best drums I've played. The only problem I can see is the rack tom mounts, and its a small problem, but I plan on using a single mount DW mount on my rack toms. I've got Evans hydraulic heads on all of the toms and bass drum and they sound great!. I still use my Tama supersonic snare, but the pdp snare I got with this set is a fine snare drum and is small, close to a piccolo snare. These drums are for pros, not just beginners, and I've played drums for over 40 years and this set is as good as any Tama, Ludwig drumset that cost $1000.00 or more. a couple of little changes and you have a great drumset that I plan on playing for years. I've played 3 gigs with them and people have commented how nice they sound and look. I bought the emerald green set and they look great. My drummer friends who own expensive sets are blown away at what I paid for these drums. I was a studio drummer for Capital Records for 5 years and you have my endorsement for this drumset completely.
Comments about PDP Z5 5-Piece Shell Pack:
This set is pretty good. The only thing that I had a problem with was the flimsy hardware it came with. My lugs are seem to not be in the right position, so when I try to tighten my heads some of the lugs are little harder to turn. Also, the L-bars for the tom toms are crap. They move on me all the time. The spurs on the bass drum also move a little but you can just tighten them to the point where it's solid.I expected these problems before I bought it, so I was prepared to change them. Once I changed the hardware this set was amazing. You can't get a better deal. The Toms have good tone, the bass drum was surprisingly deep, and the snare was decent, however, I'd say to get a better one.
