Pearl

An e-drum kit featuring real shells and drum hardware that can be converted to an acoustic kit.

The Pearl e-Pro Hybrid electronic acoustic drum set includes brass cymbals, a 22" x 12" kick; 10" x 6-1/2", 12" x 7", and 14" x 8" rack toms; a 14" x 4-1/2" snare; 13" chokeable crash; 3-zone 16" chokeable ride; and a 12" hi-hat.

Pearl e-Pro Live is a revolutionary electronic drum set that looks, feels, and sounds like real acoustic drums. Never before have drummers been offered the limitless sonic capability and realistic feel of electronic drums on a drum set built with real drum shells, real brass cymbals, and real drum set hardware.

Real look
Pearl e-Pro Live looks like real drums because the appearance of your gear is important. It's a statement about who you are as a performer. Most drummers would rather be seen playing real drums, and not a collection of practice pads.

Real sizes
No more playing on small black 8" pads. e-Pro Live features 10" x 6-1/2", 12" x 7", and 14" x 8" rack toms with a 20" x 12" bass and 14" x 4-1/2" snare with white heads.

Real hardware
The foundation of Pearl e-Pro Live starts with the modified Icon Rack. The rack will accommodate adding more drums and cymbals. The tom arms, shells, cymbal holders, and rack are all covered by Pearl's Lifetime Warranty.

Real drum shells
Pearl e-Pro Live features 6-ply poplar shells along with robust drum hardware and durable drum finishes.

Real feel
Real feel is the next important ingredient of Pearl e-Pro Live. Whether you're practicing or performing, Pearl believes playing electronic drums should feel as much like playing acoustic drums as possible. Playing traditional electronic drums with tightly configured small pads forces you to alter your playing style. e-Pro Live drums are sized and configured exactly like acoustic drums for a natural and real feel.

Acoustic shift
Truly, Pearl e-Pro Live is 2 drum kits for the price of one. e-Pro Live is made with real drums, so turning your kit into a great-sounding acoustic drum set is as easy as 1-2-3. One, remove the top hoop and the Tru-Trac head. Two, put on a regular drumhead and replace the top hoop. Three, tune and play!

eClassic brass cymbals
The cymbals featured in the Pearl e-Pro Live drum set are Pearl's eClassic high-end electronic cymbals, made with real brass. The eClassics feel and respond to your playing just like real cymbals, because they ARE real cymbals. eClassics feature a 3-zone 16" chokeable ride, 13" chokeable crash, and a super-responsive 12" hi-hat.

Tru-Trac drumheads
Pearl's Tru-Trac electronic drumheads feature dual zones that reproduce all of the intricacies a drummer hears when playing acoustic drums. The smooth coating on the heads makes moving from drum to drum fast and easy. The formula used to create Tru-Trac Heads produces a feel virtually identical to acoustic drums.

Real sound
The ultimate goal of a drum module is to reproduce the real sound of drums. All of these great components couldn't reach their full potential without rich drum and percussion sounds generated from the r.e.d.box drum module (R.E.D. stands for Real Electronic Drums). The r.e.d.box features 8 sliders, 100 user-programmable kits, USB connectivity, many popular global effects, MIDI in/out, 2 main outputs, and 2 Aux outputs.

Internal memory
The r.e.d.box has 128MB of RAM. The full memory is used to accommodate the original acoustics of 1000 high definition sounds and 100 high definition kits. The sound library includes acoustic and vintage drums, electronics from beat machines to modern digital and a variety of orchestral, concert and world percussion instruments.

Memory switch
One of the most unique features of the r.e.d.box module is the ability to flash the memory of the module and replace the original acoustics with one large and lush-sounding kit. A few easy steps and you'll be on your way to playing premium kits on your e-Pro Live from the best drum sampling software companies in the world. Specially designed kits are available for preview and download from Toontrack, BFD, Ocean Way, Steven Slate, Sonic Reality, and Virtual Drum Line.

Cymbals are sub par

Features:

The memory switch opion saves this kit. The other drums sounds are NOT good at all, but when you "BUY" another kit (from another company) These drums sound pretty good.  However, the cymbals are really aweful, they do not hold up.  We had to have 4 or 5 of them replaced.  We gave up on them and bought another brand.

Quality:

I feel that the cymbals are not made to a high performance level.  The input on the cymbal is held by two rivets in a PLASTIC box!!  They do not stand up to the test of time

LOVE the E PRO live drum set, but the cymbals are sub par.  In my opinion, these cymbals are for "bedroom drummers" because once you start REALLY rehearsing live with them, they break like cheap plastic toys.

Value:

For the money, go buy a real set, this are not gig worthy.

Overall:

Do not buy this kit if you are planning on playing live in any venue (Unless you use other cymbals) because they will not last.  If you want to spend TONS of money and play them lightly in your bedroom, then these are the cymbals for you.

e-Pro Live kit :D

Features:

This kit can do anything I need it to.  No matter what size of venue I am playing, the kit fits the job.  The huge sound library is a great resource for my musical creativity, and the fact that I can get MORE sounds at the E-pro sound shop is really cool.  The real-feeling heads are a great practice tool for me and my students.  This kit makes a great practice tool, and works great in my practice studio.  I love the aesthetics of the Redbox, and the interface is really easy to use.

The real-feel cymbals are a big plus, since I love the feel of a real cymbal, rather than the rubber fake ones.

The hardware is awesome!  'nuff said.  I haven't had a problem with any hardware failure, and the hardware matches my acoustic kit's Pearl hardware.

It's true, finally there's an electronic kit that LOOKS and SOUNDS like an actual drumset.

Quality:

Great quality all around.  The hardware is amazingly strong and resilient.  The drum-pads have slight markings from my sticks, but are still in great shape after a year of playing.  The triggers function well and have a large range of dynamics.  Even at very low dynamics, the pads trigger accurately.  The cymbals can take a pretty good beating, with only having a few stick-marks.

Value:

This is very effective and useful electronic kit.  With the ability to be converted to an acoustic kit, two kits is better than one.  I've performed with both the electronic and acoustic version of this kit, and it has worked wonderfully.  With the coupling of the emersion pack (throne thumper and headphones), this kit is the total package.

Overall:

I highly recommend this kit to anyone looking for an electronic kit for practice, performance, or fun!

Not sure what its good for.

Features:

The features are not too bad I suppose.  I dont have a lot of experience with Edrum kits to know how it stacks up agains Roland or Simmons, etc... The red box is pretty easy to maneuver through until you get into its MIDI function.  If you are just using this as a drum set for practice it has some great sounding kits available.  But thats about where the coolness of this kit ends.

Quality:

The drums themselves seem to hold up OK, but the rubber heads are getting the crap  beaten out of them after only 1 year of use at church where the kit gets played about 4 hours a week total use.  The bass drum trutrac head is getting a hole worn in it from a felt beater mallot and when I hooked up a double bass pedal I had to adjust the pedal to move the beaters out of the divit that has been worn.  Apparently Pearl doesnt offer these head for sale individually, unfortunate.  The metal cymbals are rubbish.  The first crash cymbal we had just stopped working so we sent it back to the company 4 months ago and have not received a new one. The ride cymbol was then moved to the crash spot and the rivits holding the trigger in place broke free and so it is currently taped with duct tape to the cymbal and you have to wail on the thing to get it to trigger.  Keep in mind this is not a heavily used kit.  The cymbals are really not durable at all.

Value:

This is not a professional or even a semi professional use kit.  There are only 2 outputs to run to the sound board.  So forget about EQing individual drum and cymbal sounds.  It isnt going to happen, its all or nothing. With the amount of money we spent on this kit it should have a ton more options for professional use, but it doesnt.  When you beat on the metal cymbals with the plastic coating it make an incredibly loud "CLACK" sound which negates the kits use for low volume venues like bars because to override the clack sound you would have to turn it up to the point that an acoustic kit would be quieter.  Same goes for if you are looking to play at home and dont want to disturb the neighbors.  They wont hear loud drumming, just a loud clack noise over and over which might be more annoying than a full kit sound. We play for a 1500 member church and people complain all the time that the clacking on the cymbals is annoying.  The sound carries. And playing the kit itself.... go play a fe rolls on your car tire and that is the feel of the drum heads.  Now for the high hat hit hut your kitchen counter and imagine the stick not having as much bounce but just dying on impact and thats about what it is like. Epro live... NOT WORTH THE MONEY.  Bottem line.

Overall:

The fact that you can change this into an acoustic kit is the only saving grace for this puppy, but the shells are not real high quality and the finish is a wrap.  You could get a pretty decent DW kit for the cost of this if you are just going to turn it into acoustic.  I just dont see any practical application for it.  The cymbals are junk, the heads wear out and cannot be replaced, it cannot be individually lined out for professional use.  It is a real waste of money.  Pearl needs to go back to the drawing board on this one and make it more durable and able to be used by a professional sound board. AND DITCH THE JUNK CYMBALS!!!  If you must have this kit, do yourself a favor and get the rubber cymbals, the black ones, I dont know if they make the same noise, but it cant be worse.
