Old technology still works well.

Features:

Ready to install, but needed longer screws in order to get through my shells. Might work as a replacement on some drums.

Also, no instructions were included, so installation proceeded carefully to avoid problems.

Quality:

Would like a stiffer steel in the spring, but otherwise well made.

Value:

For the price, there's no more cost effective and versatile muffling solutions.

Overall:

I purchased six of these to install in a new drum set that came without  mufflers. Could have used something else, but these are reasonably easy  to install, easy to adjust for different sounds and they just work.  There's a good reason these have been used so long.

Mufflers work if you know how

These mufflers work good enough to not buy another. Install them right & they work. If a standard ring on a shell is 1" wide overall, Butt a tape measure into the bottom of your top ring & measure down 1" & 1-1/2" drill the right size holes & install, one thing you need to know is, the small screw they send in the kit (bottom screw) is not long enough,YOU DO THIS YOUR SELF.Don't drill holes in your toms unless your sure it will work, and after they are in,  the metal that holds the pad is flexable enough to bend up tighter on the head if needed. Measure twice & drill one time,It"s your drum set. The dampeners work for me. Good luck friends.

I purchased this to go in my Rogers snare drum with an abundance of overtones, it sounded horrible.  My friend has a pearl with this inside it and a remo head. I purchased this muffler and put the same exact remo head and it sounds better than his.  This muffler takes a lot of overtones out.  The only downside, is the fact mine did not come with instructions so i had to use my mechanically inclined skills to install it.

This is a very well made muffler, and it's holding up pretty well thus far, but I'm a heavy hitter, so we'll see!  My one problem with it is that the spring arm should be a lot stronger, it has "memory" when you tighten it up all the way, and you're best to leave it once tightened up; this won't hurt the arm, as its metal seems to be quite soft.  I wish someone would make a stouter muffler with a stronger arm.  But it works.
