I tour heavily and before i got this product my bassdrum was sliding all over the place. I didn't get it to keep my wood hoop nice, because that's pointless and im not picky.The only issue I had was when the sandpaper fell off, and music stores don't seem to have essentials like hoop inserts on hand. Combine this with a rubber hoop insert and you're golden.Don't be an old man when it comes to bass drum hoops. It's not like anyone else can see if its chewed up.

I'm sorry to write such a negative review. I'm not normally the type. But seriously, a BASS DRUM HOOP PROTECTOR that required you to drill/ screw a hole in your bass drum hoop?!?! Absolute nonsense. I bought one, tried using it without the screw to see if it would work, screwed my pedal on and hit it a couple of times, and the way the screw hole is punched means even THAT has scratched up my bass drum hoop!! Buy Gibraltar's bass drum hoop protector. it's rubber, and it sticks onto your hoop with 3M tape. No nonsense, no need to mutillate your hoop.

It does protect your tender wooden hoops from damage mounting your kick pedal, BUT FIRST! LINE THAT SUCKER! Use a piece of leather, inner tube, or my favorite gaffer's tape. The way it is stamped it will scratch up your clearcoat. ARRRRGHHH!!!! I lined it, after buffing the scratches out,(grumble, grumble)and have no further issues. Instead of the piece of sanpaper, they should include a piece of leather or rubber to go between it and your drum, most guys I know wouldn't drill a hole in an otherwise good bass drum hoop anyway. That would give it 5 points all the way.
