Good sounding box after some attention

This cajon is built solid but a couple of things needed attention. It has guitar tunners mounted in it for the snare wires which is convienient but the wires were way harsh no matter how ya tried to tune it, a little tape cleaned it up for that nice snare sound. The other thing is the tunning screws on the front plate were screwed right into the front plate instead of a predrilled hole so the screw only went into the main box, once again, a little attention cleaning the holes out allowed the front plate to float to get the sound needed by tighting or loosening the screws. After said work being done it has great sound and feel, especially mic'd up.

primero cajon

Features:

Nothing fancy here.   It is solid and durable, I haul it from gig to gig with out a fancy pants bag with hardly a dent.  I don't notice much effect from losening the snares, unless they are pretty much all the way off.  The velcro dampener inside is a cinch to use.  The bass is nice and thick, and the snare is nice and tight.  Sounds comparable to some much more expensive Meinls, at least what I can tell from watching their promotional youtube videos.

Quality:

better than average, as I find most pearl products to be.  Not much craftsmanship in this piece, must have been mass produced in some factory in Asia.

Value:

great value.  wonderful addition for any percussionist for just a hnadful of bucks.  paid for itself after the second gig.

Overall:

Good started instrument, but I will probably upgrade in a year or two.  Plain, sounds just fine, and works.  Isn't that how most instruments should be?

Easy to play right out of the box. It is easy to tune. The low tones are excellent! Snare sounds great too.  The color looks very nice; the cajon fits very well in our living room.

This cajon is well worth your buck!! This beautiful piece of Pearl craftsmanship has wonderful bass, incredible highs, and a delightful snare sound. The only thing you must know before you go on believing this review to be the Gospel Truth, is that this is the first cajon I have ever owned. However the joint effort of Musician's Friend and Pearl combined to give a beautiful instrument, that I am proud to own, and would buy again in a heartbeat if I had to do over.

This cajon yields an excellent sound.  From bass to snare and everything in between, the primero is a quality product.  Even when recording, it sounds like an actually drum set and the tone variation when sliding your heel down the tapa is uncanny.  I love this instrument... but I noticed that it's difficult to tell the difference in the snare adjustments.  As easy as it is to play, I wish it came with some basic instructions on how to adjust the snare.  I also wish it had a knob on the side to adjust the snare instead of reaching into the hole.  Great value...great starter cajon
