This is an awesome snare. It has a great crack, depth, and wonderful full sound. It's a great snare tuned low or high.A wonderfully made snare drum!!!
I have had the 5.5 snare and I was very happy with it. Excellent rim shots and a great overall sound. A great snare for solos.
This is an outstanding drum for the money. Very similar to high-end maple snares of a few years back. 8 lug 2.3mm hoops gives a very open, resonant sound that is extremely versatile. Tuning range is quite wide, more towards the mid-to high range than a low fat drum (in 5" depth). Thick shell can crack yet remain warm. Nice well-rounded sound, quite well balanced with plenty of body. Finishes are good quality, if a little less imaginative/cosmetic than the MRX range.I?ve used this drum for just about everything from light orchestral/music theatre work through to rock, jazz and big band. It occasionally needs an O-Ring or similar muffling device to cut back a little ring in quieter situations, but the big open sound suits many styles especially whilst playing live. Have recorded once, snare cut through the mix beautifully and had real presence. This drum gives a lot of bang for the buck and is a great option for those looking for a cheaper workhorse drum in maple without having to fork out for die-cast rimmed drums. Highly recommended to students for its versatility and usefulness in band/orchestral settings.
