This snare excels in every way. Got it yesterday and threw on my evans HD head and couldn't be anymore satisfied. No dead sounds here, only the beauty and warmth of that birch ring, I hate the ting sound of stock metal snares. The Ivory looks absolutely gorgeous, you won't be disappointed with the visual aspect of the item. And for the price, you seriously cannot beat this deal. For many drummers a wood snare upgrade is just the missing piece to their kit they need and don't realize it. Don't hesitate on this one, buy it immediately. Can't wait til' I get a new resonant and snares on there!

This is a must buy.I changed the stock heads. I replaced them with Remo coated ambassador on top and resonant ambassador on bottom. I also changed the snare wires to puresound 20 strand blasters. What a difference. I use no muffling at all. I tune my snare high. This snare plays well and sounds good. I purchased the Ivory snare and I have owned it for a year now.

This is an ok snare, The craftsmanship on the wrap on the outter shell is awful! The wrap was pulling apart from the drum and this is right out of the box! Any 3 year old could have done a better job. The next thing you should do if getting this snare is to change the heads to a QUALITY head like Remo or Evans and lose that chinsey snare with a QUALITY snare and you stand a better chance of getting a decent sound and feel. If this is your first wood snare...Welcome to what drummers have known for years about wood shelled snares but, Even this wood shell tunes like a steel shell...Its not as bad as a steel shell but its a close second.

I have had this snare about two weeks and man is it lively, it is my first wooden snare and now I understand why all drummers should have one. I installed Evans HD DRy on top and a Hazy 300 on bottom and this thing cracks unbelievably, but is very responsive for rolls also. I will replace the strainer for another inexpensive upgrade but for the price you will not find anything close to this little beauty.

8 lugs give it an open sound, but it can be hard to tune, and only really sounds good when perfectly in tune or when muted, moongel.
Nice frequency balance, tunes decently in both low and high tunings.

I think this snare will sound better after I finish what Pearl started. Shell wrap not glued on. Bearing edges had burrs on them. I hand sanded with 1000 grit. I put a sealer on the inside of the shell. Will apply a second coat. I'm going to try a HD dry Evans head and see what I get. I didn't want a new project but I have a feeling this snare will give me the warm pop I'm looking for.

Going from a steel snare to this is apples to lemons. Right out the box was a very beautiful looking drum. For the price it's a steal. It would benefit from better snare strand and setup up other than the plastic strap that holds it in place, but other than that I really can't complain because its exactly what I needed and wanted.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Being an inexperienced drummer I had no idea what snare to buy to play punk songs. I took a chance and glad I did. Love the sound. Works great for what I do. I mainly play covers and it is versitile for many different types of music. It makes me want to replace the toms and bass drum for a pearl too. Highly recommend.

The drum shell is nice. The hardware is exceptional, however it lacks rubber gaskets on the lugs and on the strainer.

Overall, I think this is a fantastic snare drum, I think it looks beautiful, it sound great, and it is also very easy to use. This is DEFINITELY a good deal.
The Pearl VPX snare drum is a must have for any drummer. It has lots of great features that make it very easy handle. The Pearl VPX also comes with a 20-strand snare wire and a fast and easy to move throw off. It is also a very beautiful drum in the color I got which was Ivory. It also comes with Pearl Pro-Tone drum heads an they sound fantastic!
The Pearl VPX is also made very well. It is very durable and will not break easily.
This particular snare drum is the favorite of the few I have had in past years because I love the great crisp, loud noises that you can make with it if you really want too and it also is very affordable for it's great sound.

This Snare has a great snare throwoff. It has a good sounding head and snares. I tuned my Top head to a "C" Pitch, and the Bottom head to an "A" Pitch, and it really shines! I have to track my drumkit with the only good Mic I have, which is the MXL 960 Condensor (which I also recommend), and yes I get a good balance from everything!
This thing is well built. Plays and sounds professional, it even help my drum rolls to improve!
