This is a great little snare. I don't see it as a main snare at all, but I suppose it could be if you realize it is small and prefers a high tuning (which is a normal tension). Has a rimshot crack that kills!I tune it up pretty high (which is easy because it is small), don't want to choke it out though (as I think one reviewer did). The overtones (like found even on expensive drums) can be too much for some so I add a 1/4 strip of a Moongel square near the edge; funny, it just seems to stick on the head very well so I just sort of leave it stuck-on all of the time. Mine came with a coated and slightly textured Pearl Protone head that I have never changed; it seems to do what you would want for this type of drum.Buy it! I have seen it usually offered for [$] which is the price I paid for mine.

I purchased this snare about a year ago, and honestely the only thing I can say about it is that it is durable (hence the 5 stars for quality). After I first opened it up and looked at it I was surprised at how simple it was. all it is is a drum with a snare attached, no other parts (muffling, tweaking, etc.). it didn't even come with a tuning key. anyhow, I tuned it up, hit it once and quite near vomited. I have been playing for 13+ years and have been giving lessons for almost 5 years, and never have I owned, let alone heard a worse snare. I replaced the head, duct taped it, etc. (the usual process for trying to make a drum sound better), and still it is dull as hell. I purchased this to use for thrash and grindcore to get that ultra high-pop, and did not find it anywhere. All I got was a dull, dull, ring. I let my students bang it around now and it's been dropped dozens of times, and still hasn't cracked or changed sound, so at least it's durable.

        Great Little Drum!

Comments about Pearl Wood Firecracker Snare:

I love this little drum! I have using it for a couple of years now. Fits nicely in the trunk and goes everywhere with me. Tunes up really nice and gets a good crisp sound. I did change the factory stock head to an Evans 2 ply head and use a little moon gel to give it that corps snare sound.I have 5 snares but this is one of my favorites! Well made.

Stoked that I got this one!

Comments about Pearl Wood Firecracker Snare:

This is just an all around great snare drum. I have been using it as a primary snare drum for the last two years, but I recently purchased a shell pack with a Pearl Sensitone Snare, and this one will be moved to a secondary. But yes, this snare drum sounds amazing right out of the box. I still have the stock heads on it, and it still sound spectacular. Well worth the money.

I got one of these little guys of Craigslist a while back and it's easily my favorite snare of my three. It's small but really loud! The sound somewhat reminds me of the snare the rev uses on Unholy Confessions.

This snare is amazing. I bought the 12x5, put on the Remo Emperor Snare Underside Head and the Remo Emperor X Coated Batter and this thing sings. Well worth it.

Comments about Pearl Wood Firecracker Snare:

let me start by saying this review is on the 5x12 wood drum. i like a lot of folks read the reviews about this drum before i bought it.. for the most part they were not favorable. going against the grain ( experience told me this drum should work well) i made the purchase. during the purchase i also ordered a new batter as well as snare side head. ( folks this is the secret to making many drums sound great) the heads i ordered for this app. were the aquarian studio x power dot (batter) and aquarian classic clear (snare side) the studio x offers the perfect amount of damping to mute "most" of the ring but not the sound of the drum. the clear classic adds a lot of bite to the snare side. and the combo is th perfect marriage with this drum.. as far as the quaility of the drum, its really a decent drum that should last quite a while.. like most "import" drums the lugs will have some tight spots and this is actually a result of the chromeing process and not bad lugs... i have a tendency to put "neversease" on the lugs when i put the new heads on so its not ever really a problem. for those of you that are saying this is not a loud drum?? i think you need q tips.. this is a seriously seriously loud drum.. one note though.. if you over tighten the lugs, the drum will get quite, (stands to reason) it does like to play tuned high, as well as low, but there is a "definate sweet spot" in tuning of this drum. overall for under a buck fifty. its a hell of a deal. you wont be sorry..

Great sounding snare, but after a few prolonged uses, the straner for the snare loosens up, making the snare loose on the bottom head. Not big deal at all; just tighten it back up.

        Simply... Amazing!!

Comments about Pearl Wood Firecracker Snare:

I just got the Pearl Firecracker in today and this baby is the best!! Although, there were small, insignificant rust spots on the screws, the appearance is fantastic. I tightened the head up and the snares just a little and the crack sound is so sweet. With this, you get the best quality for the best price! If your looking for a side snare, or even a main snare with a great sound and a good crack...this is the one to get!

Very Versitile. Best Snare Ever Made

        By Anonymous

        from Undisclosed

Comments about Pearl Wood Firecracker Snare:

This is the most versitile drum i have ever heard. I have the 10x5 and with an Ambassador tuned somewhat tight, I get a pop/crack sound out of it. And if you tighten in more, you get a very bright crack sound. I recently put an Emperor on, and I was very surprised. It went stright from a bright crack to a dark, punch pop/crack sound. You can't go wrong with this snare, and you can make it fit any playing style
