Comments about Pintech 5-Piece Practice Cymbal Set:

I spent some $$ to turn my kit into a practice kit; I used Pearl Mesh drum heads to silence the toms (Which work fantastically) and thought these would make decent cymbal replacements. Turns out I was wrong. They're something to hit, so long as you have imagination for sound (and headphones or something to block out the annoying clack you get when you hit them) then it works for that purpose.

My biggest complaint would be the construction of the cymbals. They're very weak, causing multiple things to happen: Firstly, the cymbals are warped out of the box. Not anything that impedes functionality, but it just isn't nice looking. Second, the material is a soft plastic. It wobbles a lot, gives a very loud clack when you hit the cymbals, and worst of all, has no response when you hit it, causing your hits to feel dead and powerless. My hand cramps badly after a song due to the fact that it takes a lot of extra work to compensate for the lack of bounce back.

The weak construction also causes the Hi-Hats to fold inside themselves. Adjust your stand to help fix it, but if you have a heavy foot or go a little too much on a hi-hat beat, expect it to invert. I kinda fixed this by using a real hi-hat bottom, but then the top hat would flip inside out. When using both pintech hats together, it sounds kinda like a plastic cowbell.

Bottom line; It was a cheap alternative that allows me to drum without annoying the neighbors, but sadly these cymbals really take a lot of the fun out of drumming by making my hands hurt every song.

Still Searching

Comments about Pintech 5-Piece Practice Cymbal Set:

Low
Disappointed in the product. It's suppose to be for practice but its pretty loud, if you could image what it sounds like to hit hard plastic. The only thing I use is the set for the hi hats which I wish I would of just bought seperately. If if wasn't for the hi hats I would have rated it lower.
I guess for plasic it's ok
Better off finding something else.

eh... they're okay... i guess.

Comments about Pintech 5-Piece Practice Cymbal Set:

The only reason I'm giving these any sort of a positive review is because i can actually somewhat play drums now without annoying everyone in the house. The cymbals work best if you hit them on the outer edge (ie not the top of the cymbal). Therefore, they make for good crashes. But hi-hat and ride cymbals are tough to work with without serious modifications. The hi hats are awful. The bottom hat inverted like an umbrella during a storm.A previous reviewer said "little stick response" I'd go as far as to say "zero stick response" for rolls and ghost notes etc.However. If you glue a thick mouse pad to them, you can actually do some decent rolls and stuff. So plan on spending a little extra money and rigging them up before you can actually use them.

Very Good Product, Two Flaws

By drumworking

from Chicago

Comments about Pintech 5-Piece Practice Cymbal Set:

This product is great when space is at a premium and you need to be considerate to your neighbors. There's just a couple of flaws, that if corrected, would make this product perfect. First, the ride cymbal needs to be more dense or heavier to that the stick response would be more realistic. Finally, as mentioned by others, the hi hat cymbals, especially the bottom one needs to be heavier. I use two bars of putty that do the trick for now. In addition, on the top, I taped an HQ Sound Off pad in order to get some stick response from the hat cymbals.

Freebee frisbees with indents and wholes in the it

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Pintech 5-Piece Practice Cymbal Set:

When I ordered them I thought they would be pretty good quality for the price, but when I opened the package it gave me a surprise! Ride and crash were warped, both hihats had the holes drilled off-center and the Hi-hats do turn inside-out.

Excellent Practice Tool

Comments about Pintech 5-Piece Practice Cymbal Set:

Parents take note. If you have a kit, or your kids have a kit, and you couple these with the Pearl Rhythm Traveler Mesh Heads, you can't go wrong. 80% of practice is to get your mind and body to go through the motions when you need them to. These are great for just that. Granted you really do need to be on the real heads and cymbals now and then to perfect your accuracy, but to just get to go through to learn some of the actions, this is awesome! Really a great gift for the kit owner, and your ears and your neighbors will thank you. Highly recommended.

Great! Except the hi-hats

By MaxTheDork

from Pitman, NJ

Comments about Pintech 5-Piece Practice Cymbal Set:

I use this set with my Remo practice pad set and I love it. The only thing I didn't like was the hi-hats. They stick together and often turn inside-out with a heavy foot. So instead I used the hats as regular crashes, and use my standard hats with cymbal pads. It might not be their intended use, but it works great for me.

High hats need to be stiffer

By Ted Arnold

from Santa Fe, NM

Comments about Pintech 5-Piece Practice Cymbal Set:

I was using, masonite cymbals that I cut out myself. Very good, but when I saw the Pintech practice cymbals for sale, I bought them. They are great, although the high hat cymbals, need to be stiffer. Overall, this 5 pc. set is great.

Pintech Practice Cymbals

By Pete-ZdwB1

from Maryland

Comments about Pintech 5-Piece Practice Cymbal Set:

Nice and quiet, a great deal. The hi-hat sandwich doesn't work well because they are light and the bottom cymbal gets sucked up. Use a real cymbal for the bottom hat and use the extra 14" as a crash.
