I purchased this kit right after purchasing an acoustic set. The Pintech kit allows me to pratice when my daughter is sleeping upstairs. It also plugs into my stereo and sounds great coming out of my 301's and AM5's. I have them set up seperate for now. But I do plan to combine my Pearl set with the Pintech set very soon.
Let's face it, mesh pads are far superior to rubber pads for the snare and toms. The DM5 is a great module for practice, scratch recordings, and general performance. There are other kits that contain a DM5. One brand is a little less in price. However, the triggers were cheesy plastic mesh (non-standard) pads. The PINTECH package easily beats this competition. The structure of the mesh pad triggers are rugged and very quiet. The band can practice in an apartment building by plugging directly into a mixer and using a headphone amp with stereo quality sound. The mesh triggers put the heat on the far more expensive versions. The other triggers are your standard cymbal and bass pedal triggers, which are adequate. The only drawback is the stand. There are limitations. These can be rectified with a few additional hardware pieces and a little imagination. Have fun.
Let me start with the CONS: module does not support dual trigger pads nor is it stereo, but mono; cymbals are pretty freakin cheesy; kick "pad" is awful; rack is small, so it is tough to get pads in position easily (took me quite a while to get them where i feel comfortable); hi-hat pedal does not allow "splash" with the ball of your foot(I believe that is a limitation of the module); module does not come with attachments to allow for mounting on rack. Now the PROS: awesome mesh pads with great triggering...also, they are quite handsome; rack is pretty sturdy; good value for the money; great feeling kit to play; module offers great trigger sensitivity. What I would recommend:-buy the mesh bass drum pad like I did, forget about the inverted kick that the kit comes with-get a module that has stereo inputs, not mono - world of difference in sound quality...also one that has variable hi-hat capability-get different ecymbals, I will asap. So, in closing, this would be a great kit for a beginner. For intermediate on up, I would advise maybe going with the Tour Elite from the start.
This is definitely a superb value! The cymbals are the worst of the kit, but they are still good. The module does not support dual triggers, so if you ever upgrade, the module would have to go first. The module itself is very user friendly and has many good sounds. My kit didn't have a good way to attach to the rack mount, so I used velcro that I bought. Easy assembly, easy set-up, and easy play. The heads respond well and trigger nicely; the kick isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The cymbals, especially hi-hat, do not allow stick bounce and I do not like that.
I purchased this set and was extremely happy with it. The set actually comes with 14" cymbals, not the 16" listed, but it is electronic - each sound/voice is chosen so it really doesn't matter. I was so happy with this purchase that I purchased a second set (currently on back-order) for the church band in which I am a member. The ability to control every drum piece with voice, volume, and tone is very appreciated. There is a set or two listed cheaper but honestly, this set is the best bang for your dollars - the v-mesh heads are very well made - much better than rubberized pads! The set does comes with a universal attachment for the any module, but it is no easy attachment - I purchased some wide commercial velcro pads to easily attach the Alesis DM5. Although there are cheaper sets and more expensive sets - this deal is the better bargain. I have played acoustic sets all my life, and after playing this I am currently selling the standard sets. The electronic sets have come a long way - baby!
I purchased this set for my son for Christmas. This is our first electronic set and I was amazed at how well built this set is for the price, the stand is strong and easily went together. The set sounds great and has a really good drum feel to the heads, and they look good as well. The DM5 has some really cool features, Great value.CONS; The cymbals are really weak, and as someone said earlier cheesey, and the DM5 doesn't play hi-hat or ride very well. The cymbals are black and a different size than advertised. as for the unit, I hope it holds up for years, if the cymbals were nicer and the DM5 had a better cymbal sound along with an input jack for a CD player I would have given it a 10.
ok so i own a few high end electronic drumsets and my dad was always drooling over my roland v-pros so i g=bought him this set for his birthday and he hasnt stopped talking about them... i bought them for $$$ dollars new from another dealar in the city so thats the only reason i put a 6 stars on the value... but still.. a nice set
I purchased the set for my kids. I played a slingerland set when I was younger. Electronic drums are the way to go for 1st time players! Don't have to hear them through the painful learning process. The drums have good action, and are well built. The Alesis module is limited on the types of sounds, but overall, the drums are nice. I had a problem with the high hat pedal and the mfg fixed it right away.
