I play steel-string guitar in classical position, with left foot raised on a footstool, and needed a chair that wouldn't make my back sore. It's hard to find a truly flat chair at just the right height; most chairs slope backwards and that's a killer. I did a lot of internet research and it came down to either The Original Guitar Chair, or this Original Roc-N-Soc throne with the threaded height adjustment. I chose the throne because it can go down to 18", it's a lot less expensive, and it swivels which is good in a lot of situations.

I was worried that it might rock around a lot, but it doesn't. It's solid, stable and comfortable. I can't say exactly why but it doesn't make my back ache after playing several hours. That was becoming a big issue with my old office chair. When you're sore, you just don't feel like playing.

It's also reasonably portable, especially if you remove the threaded stopper on the height adjustment screw, which knocks more than 1 pound off the weight (seriously, I put it on the kitchen scale - 18oz). The only purpose of that stopper is to restrict the height to 20", which may be good for drummers but is too high for me (I'm 6' + 1/2").

My only complaint is that it would be even better if it could go down to 17 or 17.5 inches. Then I could play barefoot and still have the right thigh either parallel to the floor or slightly higher at the knee, which helps keep the guitar from slipping forward. Tip: soft plastic bumpers applied at the contact points are also a great help.

This throne seems nice at first, but after awhile the combination of the cushion being too soft and the shape of the front, it cuts off my circulation and/or slows down my bass foot. I always have to be shifting around trying to find a comfortable position, and that velour cover is just too grippy. If that's not enough, the cushion's wingnut always seems to be working itself loose from the main post, no matter how hard I tighten it.Might work for you, but it doesn't for me. Thumbs down! :P

I didn't buy this here, but what an incredible throne. Sitting on this throne is awesome. While playing, I can just keep going. This makes my legs, back and everything feel better and less fatigued.

This is a basic solid drum throne. No frills just good solid construction. This is my second Roc&Soc, one for each kit. I am still enjoying the first one I purchased over 10 years ago.

As a "person of size" I wanted a seat that not only would hold my weight, but remain comfortable after several hours of playing. So far no more sore back or numb behind!

Comments about ROC-N-SOC Original Saddle Drum Throne:

It's a good seat.. A bit bigger than I've been used to but I'm getting to like it. It fits in the case with all the other gear. Nice and soft. First saddle seat so still getting used to that....definately different. Feels like i'm leaning forward.... Overall I think it's a good value throne for the money. I'm doin 2 to 3 nights a week so you gotta be comfortable right.

Overall just a great seat, I use it for drums and when I'm playing other instruments.
            Easy to adjust and setup
Very sturdy, I'm 6.5" 350lbs and I sit with confidence.
Good price considering the quality you get, and you do get what you pay for!

Comments about ROC-N-SOC Original Saddle Drum Throne:

The product appears to be solidly made, and it is relatively comfortable to sit on. However, there doesn't seem to be any positive mechanism to prevent the seat from rotating. There are a couple of set screws that can be tightened to the limit of one's strengh, but neither of them has a positive engagement with any notch or other receptacle in the seat post, at least that I have found.

If your butt or back hurts, BUY THIS SEAT!

            By Scott Ross

Comments about ROC-N-SOC Original Saddle Drum Throne:

I used to play on the standard round seat, and after a 4 hour gig, I could hardly walk. Back and butt would kill me! After getting this seat, played 2 nights in a row, both 5 hour gigs, and felt great! This thing is like a seat from a 1968 Cadillac! It's Huge, and soft (but not too soft). This seat would even be great for guitar players who need a break. HIGHLY recommended!............
Great adjustments. The only negative is if you are a super low sitter. But even then you can remove the locking collar and lower an extra 2".
Super heavy duty. The seat is HUGE! Seat is made of top quality material.
A bit pricey, but if you have back problems, this seat helps tremendously!

            Pricey, but worth it.

            By BillBrutal

Comments about ROC-N-SOC Original Saddle Drum Throne:

The Roc N Soc Original Saddle drum throne is exactly what I needed... a straight forward well built seat that feels comfortable yet keeps me stable. No swaying like cheaper seats, very ridgid. I finally purchased this product after a long time drummer and friend of mine told me that he has been using the same drum throne for 17 years and it still feels solid and comfortable! Although he probably only weighs 130lbs. soaking wet, 17 years for any drum throne to still be in "like new" condition is very impressive to me and definitely convinced me to get over the pricey sales tag. No unstable feeling shock absorbers that constantly adjust seat height as you play, just a normal spiral gear that locks and keeps you right at that perfect height.
