I am a pro musician touring with top named jazz artists and I am branching out and doing an electronic duo with a fantastic drummer friend. We invested in one of these sets and the beauty of it is this: With an acoustic set, the band has to play to the volume level of the drummer (hopefully the drums are mic'd) and work around him. With the Roland TD drums, you can sit the drummer right in the mix like a cd and no matter how loud of soft you push the overall P.A. system level, he always sits the same in the mix. No more struggle to hear the kick, or floor toms. No feedback from the kick mic or the snare mics... He blends perfectly every time if you take time and the get mix right. We leave the P.A. set and every rehearsal, the sound is the same or slightly improved because we tweak it and get it just right. Tons of Oomph to the kick, cracking snare, and it never gets lost in the mix. Awesome! We are having a blast playing everything from Weather Report to Led Zepplin and we always have the appropriate drum sound. Tight Jungle kits for funk stuff, bombastic rock drums whenever we want. We are loving the TD-11k's versatility.

I just got the kit and used it in rehearsals at my house with two very good drummers and they both loved it! We played with real drums for the last year, and the mix was the best it has ever been with the Roland kit. The bass just sat just right with it, they were able to change sounds for different songs, and the dynamics of the kit are great. Awesome!

I've been playing Acoustic drums for over 10 years, and going from Acoustic to Electronic is a big change! This set is state of the art COMPACT SERIES, I play a Roland TD-9 Custom Rocker Kit at our church and I can already tell a huge difference in my accuracy. The pads on the TD11k are a lot smaller and really make you become a very direct on where you are striking. Going from my house to the church is a little of a change but not bad at all, and being able to record, practice anytime I want has really greatly improved my playing ability. The sound coming out of the drum module sounds teen times better when you get yourself a pair of headphones and really zero in on each individual pad.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Several in my family want to learn to play drums. I could have purchased a nice set of acoustic for much less money but the divorce would have more than made up any potential savings. When my son is practicing, all we hear is "clicking" in another room. If he closes the door we hear almost nothing - and that would not be true of acoustic drums.
We also purchased the Roland V-Drums Tutor software and together, we have our own self-paced learning studio.
I really wanted to purchase the SV package with the upgraded mesh heads for the toms, but the difference seemed like a lot. As it turns out, you can buy this package plus 2 PDX-6 and 1 PDX-8 mesh pads for less than the price of the TD-11K-SV package. I don't understand the pricing, I just went with the lowest price!
If you would like a high-quality set of electronic drums, I don't think you could go wrong with or be disappointed by this set.
