The TD-4K2-S V-Compact Series Drum Set

    Features:

I have this set hooked up to my surround sound recording studio.  It sounds fantastic.  Although it does have a female MIDI out, I am finding limits with this missing port.  The lines out (2 1/4" TRS), Headphone out, and Line in work just fine.  I hooked up a double pedal to the kick.  The spiked stop screws don't do much stopping the kick from sliding across a rug, so I would recomend getting a rubber mat large enough to fit the whole kit and throne on.  (4'X5')  I don't like the snake input end.  I like stuff that's upgradable.  One could get a different brain, but would also have to buy new cables for the pads.  The Hi Hat pedal takes some getting used to, but it's great.  For the missing MIDI in, the module gets an 8, pads and pedal 10.

    Quality:

    Legendary Roland

    Value:

This is a good entry level set.

    Overall:

This kit is well made and should last a long time.  Pads and cymbals are relatively inexpensive.

    Features:

Gotta love the great customizability of each individual pad: percussion, muffling, tuning, ambiance, individual volume and sensibility; gives you a chance to make your dream kit.Snare pad is a great adition to the kit, it gives the feel you expect from any normal snare. Cloth kick pad also feels great, and makes very little sound.Features two output lines, headphone jack and midi out, great for a practice, live session or recording.

The tempo trainer is a great tool for perfecting your timings and endurance, use it everytime before practicing. Doublr trigger cymbals offer more versatilty with the possibility of diffrent tones and sounds. Hihat pedal is good, but I still want more sensibility from the pressing of it.

The lack of preset practice songs should be resolved in future kits though...

    Quality:

Toms feel very nice. Great bounceback and an even better resistance than other pads, they sure would handle a beating. Snare seems like it will last for quite a long time, as with the cymbals. Cymbals sound very natural and feel very comfortable when hit. The stand by it self feel very sturdy and doensn't wiggle when you are playing. The hihat pedal is heavy, and feels very nicely when pressed. A great thing to notice, is that both the hihat pedal and the kick pad both have handturnable screws that will latch to your carped, this making it almost impossible for both parts to move farther away from you.

The sounds are amazing, you could record this set and no one would ever know it's an electric kit.The possibilty of tuning emulates perfectly the tuning on real drums, as well as the muffling.

I know this kit will last for a some years.

    Value:

Quite costly for many, but makes a perfect choice for the money, there are more expensive kits, but this one could very well be the first tier of high tier electric drumsets.

The feel and the wide variety of sounds and customization make this set quite worthy of it's price,

    Overall:

Everything I wish for from a drumset, great feel, sound and quality,  I've been a drummer for 6 years now, and this is my 4th kit, and the best one I've had, even my best Pearl set kinda got jealous from this one! Easy to use interface and menu system keeps things simple and yet give so many oportunities to make the perfect kit for you, with the sounds you want, onto any of the 25 possible kits you can assemble, just what I need.

I'm very happy with my purchase, and the best thing is that it's portable, weighs around 35 pounds and great for going to practice and to live shows. On a great set of speakers, this baby kicks most acoustic sets hard!

    The Evolution of edrums

    Features:

Lots of high end features at a low cost.

    Quality:

Build Quality is fantastic, pads are heavy duty but care is needed  specially for snare, be sure not to hit the sensor to avoid damage.Sound  Quality is awesome specially if hooked on a very good sounding  speaker. TD4 drums has undergone a lot of upgrades and so far this one  (TD-4K2-S) nailed it. Name a thing that you can do to an acoustic set,  this edrums delivers, tom pads are tunable and muffled electronically,  snare is tunable manually and electronically plus there are a lot of  sounds to choose depending on the type of music you play. The only thing  to remember when transporting it is to tighten all nuts&bolts to  avoid loosing it.The addition of the KD-9 kick pad is a bonus since  Roland did not put extra charge for it. I put a felt pad the one used  for furnitures and presto the kick sensor is protected.

    Value:

I checked Yammy DTX-550 due to the DTX technology but the extra cost is  too high not to ignore.Roland TD4 can offer nice features. They are almost same, you can select from maple, wood, coated etc,  but in terms of sound selections and overall features DTX-550 has a lot  to offer but I don't need it that much. TD4 has 25 pre set tunes and it  is still capable to select which kind of acoustic sound you want to hear  plus you have a quite KD-9 kick. Regarding V cymbals they sound great.

    Overall:

If you're planning to buy a drum set and you need to practice in a quite  setting then TD4-K2-S is a very good buy at a cheap price point, you  can adjust the overall volume or use a headset for total quite  practice. If you buy an acoustic kit, then you need to buy a very good  cymbals not just a ZBT or any bronze tech cymbals which will be  expensive plus you have to upgrade the skins. The best thing is you can  tune the small toms at a high pitch and give the floor a big beefy sound  so with the kick drum and each pad's volume can be adjusted to your  preference. Portability is another plus point, it can be packed in a  small bag no need for a big car to haul the whole set.In a Live  situation as long as the sound mix is very good, TD4 will sound just  like a very expensive kit as long as you can tune it properly. The only  thing don't forget to buy a very good pedal such as Pearl's P900, 3 bags  to carry the set (to avoid scratches), a quality headset and a good  sounding powered speaker or a 60W PC 2.1 spkr for studio practice. You  won't need an all mesh pad set-up as toms are not often used and the  sound and feel of rubber pad toms are ok.Another thing it is fully  adjustable small kids can use it with ease.

After about 2 years of an acoustic set i bought this one and I LOVE IT!!! The mesh snare feels great, and the choke-able cymbals are really good. I love the built in metronome and coach features are really helpful. I would recommend it to mid level drummers.
