The Sabian AAX crash pack is AWESOME! The crashes have a really good sound. The 18" crash has a nice bell so you can do fill and ride on it. The splash has an amazing sound also. It has a nice glassy sound just what you want in a splash. The arm is not the most flexible but it works.
Sabian AAX cymbals are excellent quality. I am a long time Zildjian player and selected this cymbal back for three reasons. 1) Quality package including three cymbals (16", 18" and 10"). 2) Sabian's web site allows you to sample cymbal sounds. I selected these cymbals because they sounded great and had a nice crisp top end. The web site also allows you to "build" a drum set with whatever cymbals you select and you can "play" them, giving you a good idea of what they would sound like in your configuration. 3) AAX cymbals have a nice crisp, focused sound. I played AAX cymbals in a store and they sound very nice. Equivilant to Zildjian A Custom cymbals. The X-Plosion versions have a raw bell which makes them project a little better due to additional volume. The AAX have a nice crisp top end with hardly any conflicting overtones. To say they "sing" would be a good analogy.
This cymbal pack includes 16" and 18" AAX cymbals that are well matched and complement each other nicely. I don't think each cymbal is individually sonically matched, but nonetheless they don't step on each other's sound or have strange harmonic or phase cancellations. They are bright and clear and have a nice focused sound.
I used to play Zildjian Z Custom cymbals. I sold them with my old drum set and recently bought a new drum set, requiring me to get new cymbals. As my music tastes have changed, so did my cymbal selection. These AAX are much thinner than the Z Customs, and obviously play differently. I would compare them to ZIldjain A Customs. They open up nicely when played softly and have good punch when whalloped. Understand that they are thinner cymbals than "metal" or Z Customs so if you are a very heavy hitter or require your cymbals to take a crushing blow, then you would be better off selecting heavier cymbals. In my playing, they are plenty loud and cut very nicely and I can hit them and not worry about breaking them. I don't bash the crap out of them as I play a little lighter than I used to with my Z Customs. Admittedly, I tortured my Z Customs and next bend or broke one. I hit those cymbals as hard as I could and expected them to last, which they did. I don't play these cymbals as hard because my music is different now. I expect these AAX to last me years.
It comes with a free 10" AAX splash and an extension arm to attach it to your existing cymbal stands. That was a nice addition as I did not expect to have a bonus cymbal arm included.
Sabian AAX cymbals are high quality brass that rivals equivilant Zildjains or Paiste cymbals.
Great price for three brand new cymbals.
