The Sabian AAX Dark Crashes are all around great crashes. I've owned the 16inch for over two years and even being my only crash when I first bought it, it never broke. A lot of crashes would crack when being the only thing hit. Now I have the 18inch as well and they really produce nice warm, dark sounds. They don't sound like you're just striking metal but a musical instrument. Hitting them soft or hard doesn't matter they always produce that warm dark tone that is musical and fits many styles. This is definitely a group of cymbals that you could mix in with some HHX or HH. They have that dark quality of the Hand Hammered although they have the tonal response that AAX has. Which is that they always have that nice sound at all volumes. A lot of cymbals only have their best sound when you strike them at the correct volume. SO these are nice cymbals to have.

A beautiful sounding crash that sounds like it's hand hammered. Unlike its AAX counterparts, this cymbal is not as bright for obvious reasons and is the only AAX not available in a brilliant finish. If you like to hit hard, keep in mind that it's a thin crash. Still use it but I wouldn't use it as a main crash. I use it for more subtle areas of the music because it's very warm in comparison to my AAX Stage cymbals. It's not overbearing and offers a smooth, fairly lengthysustain. Probably better suited for jazz or softer playing but also adds a nice variety in loud music when hit harder.

Dark and Full

By Double D-xIUDu

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

I own the 17" size of this cymbal. It puts out an excellent dark, resounding, sustaining, full sound. It is great for drummers who are trying to blend with their band since it gives nice low tones which are apparent and present but yet not overly obvious. I use it as my primary cymbal in an acoustic/ethnic set. This cymbal really pulls the different sounds together. When played with brushes it gives a brighter, lighter sound with the underlying dark tones resonating underneath. It is really a great sound and over all great cymbal.

Too thin

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

I have owned this cymbal for about 3 years now. I bought it from a buddy for $100 with a clamp. I wouldn't say this cymbal is anything special. I think it lacks volume, and it's very thin. I recommend it to someone who already has a good depth of crash cymbals, or else this one will bend fast.

Pretty Good Cymbals

By Christian--vY6C

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

i got an 18" a whiiiile back, and i loved it. I sounded so rediculous with my 18" A custom. the only bad thing, is, it breaks too easy, i went through like 4 of these in a year (i had a warranty though, so i was all set, haha)overall these things are amazing. i will never stop buying these. peace.-C.S.

decent crash !

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

Tonally it fits in between my 17" K Hybrid crashand my 19" AAX Studio crash with a slightly longer wash than the "K" but slightly less than the Studio. It has a nice bell for accents and stickwork. K Zildjians are known for their Darkness and smooth Jazzy sound, however the Sabians although not as crisp and clean as the "K's" they are very close for less money. If you can't justify the xtra expense for "K's" these are a more affordable alternative. I have 4 "K's" (16"&17"hybrids,18"Dark,and 20"hybrid ride)and 2 Sabians(18"dark,and 19"studio crashes) and they blend very well together.

(17'') Dark, warm, and dry.

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

I have owned the 17-inch version of this cymbal for about 6 months now. I have it in the traditional finish. I have found that the cymbal is simply not appropriate for continuo. You really wouldn't want to ride this things for measures on end. It's much more suitable as a fast or accent crash. The sound is just too low-pitched and not bright enough to use as a primary crash (plus, it's really thin). When used appropriately, it definitely sets a mood in darker or more mellow music. The bell is excellent as well.

AAX Dark Crash

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

Owned 17" in natural finish for about two years now. It is my favorite crash in my set-up. Responds very quickly with good saturation and sticking is well-defined. It would probably serve well as an alternate ride in the larger sizes(18,19,20). Works well with all types of music. Overall, great cymbal but that is expected from SABIAN.

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

I have the 19" version and what a cymbal this is. The bell is a decent size, and decay is beautiful. The volume is quite loud, it screams through both guitarist. I have many different classes of Sabian on my kit to create a pure amazing mixture of cymbals. If your looking for a loud, great to ride of and accents you wont be dissapointed.

A Good Combination

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

This cymbal is true to its name and offers a darker tone than most. Excellent to use when you want a crash with a lower sound that won't overpower everything else. Combined with the bright AAXplosion crash, I get two opposite sounds that mix well together. Sabian really shines with their AAX series.

Excellent 2nd or fast crash

By V-man FL

from Cape Coral, FL

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

I bought this cymbal about a month ago and love it. It has an awesome fast decay and is perfect for fills. It's brighter sounding as any crash I've ever owned. I use it as a fast crash and I can confidently say it was worth the money.

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

I bought the 16inch 5 years ago and last week I cracked it. I am in an active heavy rock band and it lasted this long. So if you want a nice warm yet bright sound that will last you for 5 years buy this one. I recomend it for heavier music. I am about to buy another one

I own the 15" and took it with me to a studio for a session and WOW. It made a great "change of pace" cymbal and really ripped through. Bright, quick, and full. Sounds great live as a primary option. You need a new crash? Get this one!

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

I got this cymbal few months ago and it's alright. I got it in 17". It sounds great, but the cymbal is so thin. It's very easy for this cymbal to warp and bend. It sounds good for many typed of music but it's very thin and hard hitters you should try something else.

By Anonymous

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

this is definitely my favorite cymbal. i was scared that it would be too dark/low pitched. no way. it sounds sweet when tapped lightly and powerful when spanked. only complaint would be that it is easily marked with fingerprints. some sabian polish should do the trick, probably... buy it now. haven't cracked it after about a year; i'll be heartbroken if i ever do...

Two words, Holy Glavin

By Thebatcommander

from Lemont IL

Comments about Sabian AAX Series Dark Crash Cymbal:

this cymbal is pretty awesome. It's tonally tight, with a deep broad crash. It's also got a nice decay, and looks sweet while doing the job. I tested a few Zildjian ZXTs, but this one just seemed so much better. The ZXTs were kind of dry and seemed pretty dull. This one makes a definite presence on stage. Because of its deeper sound, i usually ride on this while i accent with my Sabian Pro, because of its brighter sound. Overall all a super rad cymbal, and it is definitely worth the extra dollars.
