I am writing this review and basing my ratings on ONLY the HHX Evolution series splashes and various crashes (including o-zone crashes and effecks crashes). These are the best cymbals ever made. These are second best only to the discontinued first generation evolution cymbals, which had traditional finish and raw bells (They were definitely slightly better cymbals back then). The 18" ozone crash is overbearing and is not very musical like the rest of the crashes (hard rockers will probably like this model). The 16" ozone crash is perfect. The 8", 10" and 12" splashes are the best in the business as are the 16" and 17" regular crashes. As with the 18" ozone crash, the 18" regular crash is just a little bit too much. The 17" effecks crash is sounds great with or without the 3 rivets (I'm not even sure if they still sell it with the rivets...I haven't seen one with rivets in a while). The reason I excluded the HHX Evolution line of hi-hats and ride in this review is because they are by far among the worst hi-hats and ride cymbals in the business. I don't know what happened, but they are terrible cymbals. Also because I don't use any other splahes or crashes from any other line from sabian or any other company, so adding them in this review would bring the score down dramatically. If you're curious about what I use for hi-hats and rides, I prefer Zildjian 13" or 14" A Custom Mastersound hi-hats, and Sabian AAX 20" or 21"(special order) Dry Ride or 21"(special order) AAX Metal Ride. I'm specifically writing this review for real working drummers and musicians who but their gear for how great it SOUNDS (As a plus, these cymbals really look great too), not for the people who will go and buy the whole line of cymbals because Dave Weckl's name is on them. I really don't care about Weckl, I use these cymbals because they SOUND GREAT, not because Weckl's great...And that's how it should be!!!****

I've been playing drums for 14 years and have always been an endorser of Sabian. They are the best sounding cymbals. I play in a progressive rock band and I am a large man (6'7 260lbs.) I know I'm a hard hitter but I also know how to hit my drums. I've only broke two cymbals in all my years of drumming, and that occurred after years of beating them. I purchased the 18 inch HHX Evolution after numerous reviews and extensive research. I immediately fell in love with its responsive sound and bright tones. I did notice how easily it bent and bowed when riding on this crash. I did everything I could to help the crash help me. After 4 months and 12 shows, 4 practices a week, the power of my hitting and the thinness of this crash ended in a crack along the edge. The cymbal died immediately. Lesson learned.

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Crash Cymbal:

I tried a couple of crashes including a Zildijian K custom, A custom, Sabian Vault and this is the one I bought and it was the best money I have ever spent. It can be hit with a stick or tapped with your finger and sounds perfect. It truly is the perfect crash sound. Bravo Sabian, bravo.

    EXCELLENT

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Crash Cymbal:

Bought the 18in of this crash without trying it out and instead reading a ton of reviews. This is my favorite cymbal I have on my entire kit. I have all HHX and AAX cymbals. You can play it so many different ways. It's thin design makes it able to get a beautiful tone without smashing it, but it's not to thin. I'd recommend this cymbal for any style of music. It will sound the way you want it to.

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Crash Cymbal:

I've now had this cymbal for about 6 monthes and all I can say is....wonderful. This cymbal can take any hit you throw at it, you can use this cymbal in a jazz band and you could turn around and play speed punk with it. Its just a all around great cymbal.

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Crash Cymbal:

If you are on the fence about buying this cymbal, hop on the Sabian bandwagon and buy it. This crash is versatile, you can play hard rock, or jazz or anything in between. It has the sweetest decay sound thats right out of a recording.

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Crash Cymbal:

Bought this cymbal in replace of a crash I broke. I bought a 15 inch and the sound this cymbal produces is unlike anything ive heard. I will buy the 16,17,18 inch cymbals as well.

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Crash Cymbal:

This cymbal is alright. It's pretty thin. It's great for soft songs but if you play loud, I wouldn't suggest this. Has a good ringing length.

    Gorgeous Response my little 17

Comments about Sabian HHX Evolution Series Crash Cymbal:

I have a kit full of K crashes, rides, etc and wanted something brighter and louder with great response to compliment my two K crashes which have a quieter warmer sound. This baby is the answer with a beautiful bell for riding and a buttery response. This isnt no garbage lid, this thing has a beautiful explosion when needed but is musically responsive at low volume levels. Im- sigh- in love....
