Comments about Sabian HHX Studio Crash Cymbal:
I tried Zildjian and Paiste, but for my tastes these Sabian HHXs just blew them away. I still own Zildjian Custom Hybrid 14" hats that I absolutely love so I'm not brand loyal by any stretch, but the Sabian crashes are just awesome.
I first fell in love with and bought the 16" HHX Stage Crash, but I needed a larger companion. The beauty of this cymbal is its explosiveness, tonal richness, and ability to wash over the stage. The 18" Stage was just too heavy and dark, but the 18" Studio proved to be the absolute perfect companion to my 16" Stage. It's quicker and leaner than the 18" Stage, but its tone still mates perfectly with my smaller crash and its larger size still lets it pack a punch and not sound too thin or shrill. I don't know if Sabian meant for these two families to be combined together, but for my tastes it sure works beautifully.
These are hand-made products so there is considerable variation between individual cymbals. You need to hear these cymbals in person to make sure you're getting the sound you want, or make sure you buy from a reputable distributor with a good return policy just in case. The first one of these I heard had a small imperfection along the edge and it just didn't sound quite right, but the second one was just dead-on perfect.
At these prices, you just can't earn a 10.
Comments about Sabian HHX Studio Crash Cymbal:
It might just be that I'm generally a Paiste fan, but these cymbals are just too dark and trashy for my tastes. Last year, I tried using the 17" and 18" while in the studio, and I was very disappointed considering the cost of these cymbals. They lack the sparkle and "glassy" quality that I look for in a good crash cymbal, don't have enough sustain, and sound especially dark and muffled in live situations.
Comments about Sabian HHX Studio Crash Cymbal:
this crash sounds amazing. I bought mine from a certain space themed music store about 6 years ago for $100 when they were going out. Its sounds great still but when playing live, I sometimes need to put an overhead closer to it when I use this with some med-thin A's... the sound matches great with them but its a little "washier" and less "cutting". still amazing sound though.
Comments about Sabian HHX Studio Crash Cymbal:
I bought the 15" Crash. I like the odd number crashes, and I never heard this before in person; bought it because I heard reviews, and wow, what a great crash. Very loud, yet cutting, a very 'shimmering' crash, and has the best build up Ive ever heard.
Comments about Sabian HHX Studio Crash Cymbal:
I own the HHX 18" Studio, HHX 16" Evo, HHX 10" Splash and HHX 14" Power Hats... OH BABY! I am now switching my AAX Xplosion, and Sound control Crashes for more HHX!!!LOVE EM... they wash beautifully, make a presence no matter what the music. You play them, not hit them. I play a variety of music, rock, blues, fusion and they just work no matter what...
Comments about Sabian HHX Studio Crash Cymbal:
I've had the 14 and 16 for over a year now and recently decided to go all out in the cymbal category. I bought the 18 as well as 10 and 12 HHX splashes. I loved my 14 and 16, but i was still amazed with these recent additions. All five of these cymbals are perfect compliments of each other. Any two of these blend together beautifully. Definitely a good choice on my part.
Comments about Sabian HHX Studio Crash Cymbal:
These cymbals are beautiful and unique. I ordered the 14" and 16" last week. They are "thin and crisp". They have an ultra fast response and are extremely sensitive w/ a short sustain. Hitting them harder doesnt make them wash more, so much as it makes them louder, although they do build up. A light tap gives them a great sound and a wallop makes them scream. The 14" is VERY high pitched. I cant wait to get the 18" to balance it out. Beautiful in appearance...
Comments about Sabian HHX Studio Crash Cymbal:
These cymbals have the most full sound you can imagine. You can ride hard on this thing for a a whole song and it won't wash out. Or add a musical punch by merely tapping it. I record regularly with this thing and every producer and sound tech loves it! ( I have the 20")
Comments about Sabian HHX Studio Crash Cymbal:
I've had this cymbal for about 1 1/2 and not a single crack! It is a really good cymbal for rockyou can really hit the crap out of it!
