OVERVIEW

Delivers the volume you need.

The Simmons DA200S Electronic Drum Set Monitor is designed to project the best sound quality possible for your electronic drum set. It is equipped with a 100-watt low frequency amp and 2 50-watt mid and high frequency amps. The high frequency amp ensures that even the highest cymbal crashes sound clear. The low-frequency amp has a 12 down-firing sub-woofer speaker and a slot port for bottom end projection. A ground lift eliminates the hum or buzz that can occur at certain locations. There are even soft touch knobs that can be quickly and easily adjusted with a drum stick. This monitor is protected by a durable carpet covering and a ribbed handle permits easy transportation from gig to gig. The Simmons DA200S has the large sound field needed to play your drums under the best sound conditions for you and for your audience.

Got this for my Roland TS-6S V-Tour kit a few years ago and its still running solid. It is built like a tank and weighs about as much. The sound is loud and clear - no rattle, nominal hiss at highest volume (all knobs at 11) - which is to be expected from any amp. The subwoofer really does shake the house. I transitioned this over to my acoustic kit a while ago. My Yamaha kit is mic'd into a mixer with leads running out to this amp. I was going to get a dedicated sub for my kit then figured I try this before spending a lot on just a sub. It's perfect as it offers the widest frequency response for any amp in this category -- or frankly any amp even close to this price range. It sounds good as a small PA too - I have run vocals through this, as well as my bass guitar. Yeah, it's not advertised for such use, but in the end, it's an amp with speakers and it sounds amazing no matter what you pump through it.
Solid build - really really solid.
Great price for the quality and diversity offered in this unit.

I bought one of these back in December. I play Zendrum Live, which is still electronic drums since I am using a sound module. I was using a Roland PM-10, and it was working fine, but it just wasn't powerful enough for some stage situations, so I bought this one. Within the first week, I heard a nasty buzzing noise from it, along with really bad crackling noises from the volume controls for the speaker outputs on the back. Thankfully, Guitar Center replaced it. Now, the replacement is showing signs of the same buzzing noise but only on the right channel. So, after speaking with Guitar Center, I was told to call Simmons. Simmons said they will call Guitar Center and they will again, replace it for me. So, 3rd time is the charm? Stay Tuned. In the mean time, my little Roland PM-10 is still going strong as it can, working great as ever. And that one I found on Ebay 3 years ago. I'm tempted to bring this one back and trade it in for the larger Roland PM-30. Simmons, This is your last chance!

Using this in my home studio. Has pretty decent sound. Almost as good as the sound system I use for the Roland TD4 kit.

Comments about Simmons DA200S Electronic Drum Set Monitor:

I bought this use on stage with electronic drums as a stage monitor. It works very well so the other musicians can hear what I am playing. I also have it hooked up to the PA to put the sound out front. I was surprised by how easy it was to set up and use. The sound on stage is great and can be adjusted without changing the sound or volume out front. Also the line out to the PA has it's own volume control. The only down side is that it is heavy to carry.

Comments about Simmons DA200S Electronic Drum Set Monitor:

I'm typically a guitar player, but I recently got into building drum machines and synthesizers such as the TB-303 bass line synth clone (x0xbox), and the TR-808 clone (Yocto), a Sonic Potions LXR, and my guitar amps were not suitable. This amp is amazing for drum machines. The sound is so crisp and the hi-hat and cymbals are so clear, yet you get a bass drum sound that goes through your chest. For my use I can't imagine that there's any other amp that could sound any better than this. Since I've only had it for about 1 month, I can't say how it will hold up for the long haul, but it seems very solidly built. I built a wheeled base for it and I can roll this amp anywhere in my house, I simply love this amplifier.

Comments about Simmons DA200S Electronic Drum Set Monitor:

Overall, you can't go wrong with this amp, if you are looking for electric drum kit amplification. It is the best on the market. That being said, I gave my review 4 out of 5 stars only because I wish Simmons (or any other company) would put out a louder amp, but this amp will cut through during rehearsals well enough.

It also works well as an onstage monitor to hear yourself when playing live (assuming you play live with your electric kit). You can run XLR cables out to the PA from it once your EQ is just right.

It does a good job of bringing out both the highs and lows. No complaints of it getting distorted with the low end cranked, which is one thing I worried about. My only wish is that it was even louder, for playing those mid-sized venues that have a less than effective PA system.

It's heavy for its size, but easy to carry if you pick it up just under the top/front ridge. I would definitely recommend this as the best option for an electronic drum amp.
