Comments about Simmons SD1500 Electronic Drum Set with Blue Metallic Rack:

BOUGHT A SET AND EVERY TIME I USED THE KICK THE RIDE FIRED. AND WHERE THEY PUT THE RIM SONG PLAY BUTTON ON THE 4TH TOM, I'D RANDOMLY START SONGS WHEN I DIDN'T WANT TO. AND AS FAR AS I COULD TELL NO WAY TO TURN THAT FEATURE OFF. ALSO THE RACK IS NICE BUT NOT VERY ADJUSTABLE CUZ OF THE SHAPE.

Comments about Simmons SD1500 Electronic Drum Set with Blue Metallic Rack:

This is my first purchase of an electric drumset, or any drumset for that matter. Setup was reasonably easy, although the instructions that came with the set were not very clear. There was definitely some guessing involved in the setup. Overall I enjoy the kit alot, with a few slightly annoying to significant drawbacks. 1st, the grey brackets that hold the blue metallic rack together, are plastic. Normally this wouldnt be a huge deal, but it requires a bit more attentiveness when adjusting these brackets, as the screws that hold them in place are metal and can easily strip the plastic bracket. I did this on two of them right out of the gate. 2nd, the kick pad. I'm not sure if its the pad itself, whether I need to adjust the sensitivity of it, or what, but the hits clearly do not register as well as on the other pads. I may be reaching out to Simmons directly on this to see what can be done. Lastly, the pre programmed drum kits kinda suck. Thankfully the module lets you pre-program up to like 50 different custom kits, which is kinda what your left with. Like I said though, overall its a good/fun kit and had some good jams on it so far.

Comments about Simmons SD1500 Electronic Drum Set with Blue Metallic Rack:

For the most part, the kit is superb. However, there are 2.5 fatal flaws in its design. The first and most obvious one (visually, and practicality), is that the cymbals must stick straight up from the posts in the hex rail. This becomes a huge issue (for me at least) with the second crash, as I practically have to reach behind me to hit it, or flip my wrist backwards blindly and hope to hit it.

The second, is the multi zone crash basically doesn't work. I tend to get a blended sound somewhere between a ride and crash on almost every hit, and I can never seem to get the bell to work. I use it like a crash anyways, so it doesn't bug me much (this is the .5 flaw), but to many people it could be an issue.

The last, and worst flaw of them all, is the kick pad. Unlike the snare and tom pads it has a softer rubber insert inside the pad to account for the impact of the beater, and it interferes with the response. I only get MAYBE 50% of hits to register. As a rock drummer, even the simplest of beats **do not come through**. The kit (and pad box) clearly state "For use with double pedals!" but it might as well not even work with one.

I contacted Simmons about it, and over the course of about a month, they sent me THREE replacement pads and they all were terrible. While their customer service is GREAT, after sending me nearly 300 worth of replacements for the same issue, they closed the case as unsolved.

I took the 3rd tom off the set, and disassembled both it and the kick pad, to put the kick pads bracket onto the tom, and remounted that tom as the bass drum. I'm now down 1 pad on the kit, and have a bass drum that feels like I'm kicking a brick (its not designed for beaters... thats why the included kick pad as the built in dampener), BUT everything I do on the kit registers flawlessly.

The snare and tom pads are phenomenal, and while I don't really care for any of the cymbals, they feel the same as basically every other cymbal pad in the industry.

Comments about Simmons SD1500 Electronic Drum Set with Blue Metallic Rack:

I am now 5 days in - in my ownership. I will be exchanging this set for a different brand. It makes me sick to do so, love the rack and pads, but there are some real issues with the module and the way it handles and routes its audio output and midi. 1) You can not record the Main L&R outputs and midi at the same time. Connecting the USB cable created a terrible high pitched hum at the audio outs. 2) Having all connections the Aux input, midi/USB, and L&R outs all at the same time makes the unit cut in and out. Sometimes theres sound some times not. 3) The Auxiliary input is always passed to the main L&R outputs. No way to use this as a recording monitor.
Good news: Musicians Friend stands behind what they sell! Have option to return set or exchange.

Simmons SD1500 is the Bomb! The Rack is Awesome & Strong! No plastic parts to strip or crack! The pads are loaded with triggers all over. The sounds are fantastic and too numerous to mention. Take time and read the manual because you can do so much with this kit. And don't forget to purchase a Simmons Amp to go with this kit. Nothing else will do it justice. I'm impressed ! This is a great kit for the price, I play Yamaha Maple Customs but now Im in a lot of corporate gigs and need to keep volume down, plug and play into the PA and volume is not a problem. Love the sounds and feel of the pads. Its not Roland for %7000,,,, but does the job just as well.... Im a long time Simmons fan from the early '80s very pleased with this kit!!
