Overall, a pretty good kit. However, it takes a little fine-tuning to get things working the way you want them to.

For example, you may encounter the annoying issue where hitting the snare drum also activates the hi-hat (especially irritating when customizing different kits). All you need to do is adjust the proximity of the two drums, and loosen the wing nuts for each if they are too tight.

Also, make sure your kick drum pedal is PERFECTLY centered with the response pad, or you will think it is broken like I did.

Do these things, and you will like this kit just fine!

This set is a bargain on paper (when on sale), but in reality I found it almost unusable. It constantly misfired on the snare (missing snare hits) and the drum module is practically useless. If you like the movie Groundhog Day, you'll love this module. It forgets most of the settings, such as volume levels, reverb off and so forth. So you get to set these every single time you turn it on (even if haven't unplugged the module's power). Also, there is a horrible lag problem both with USB and Midi port connections. I tried tweaking ASIO drivers in Windows, but that didn't help much, still a very noticeable lag in cue mix. I gave up and sent this back after a week of frustration. Thank you so much Musician's Friend for standing behind what you sell!

Comments about Simmons SD5Xpress Full Size 5-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

I bought this to use as a cheap set of midi pads to use with other sound modules and it's better than I thought it would be. If you played and want one of the high end kits you will be disappointed in this but for a basic electronic kit this is functional. Sounds are acceptable for practice and basic gigging. I will always prefer acoustic drums but you can use these in places that you can't even fit a regular kit and they have a volume control so those coffee house volumes are possible...

Comments about Simmons SD5Xpress Full Size 5-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

I bought this for quiet practice and it will work fine for that. I have owned Roland electronic kits before and there is no comparison, but that would not be comparing apples to apples. I would like for the pads to be more sensitive for my playing style, but if you are just getting started, this would be a great kit.

Comments about Simmons SD5Xpress Full Size 5-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

Overall the product is great, both in the studio and live gigs. The module is really easy to work and the sounds are quite good. The hi hat is the one thing that is not exactly perfect. It feels a little unnatural. I did not experience problems with time lag that some of the other reviewers mentioned. I also did not experience problems, as mentioned by others, with double triggering except with the bass drum pedal. I had to adust my playing a bit to work around that. Overall, I love it.

This is my very first Drum kit. The Price was awesome, and the drums sound terrific. the only problem I have is the assembly instructions are too vague. I still haven't figured out how to position the foot pedal so that it doesn't hit the wing nut every time I step on it. Other than that, everything else works great.

Comments about Simmons SD5Xpress Full Size 5-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

This is a decent set but I would not pay more than 200 for it. The sound is decent, reaction time good but the biggest complaint is that it is hardly height adjustable. If you are over 6 feet (I am 6'4") then you will be banging on your knees. I had to get myself taller legs for the set to be able to play it properly. This is NOT a professional set but is good for beginners or as a practice set at home.

Some people are a little turned off, to theese Simmons Electronic Drum Kits, because the way the bass peddle is made. It seems like it can't be Upgraded, to a Double Bass, but, Yes, It Can...and I just figured out, how...All ya gotta do, is hook up a Delay Peddle, and set it on Slap Back, and There...ya go...hell, if ya want, you can even set it for a Triple Kick. Wow, is that cool, or what? Now, all I gotta do, is Learn, how to play, and Trust Me, I'm workin on that. LOL.
