Comments about Tama HP900RSWN Iron Cobra Rolling Glide Double Pedal:

There are two problems with these pedals that made me rate them as "below average," both of them being engineering flaws.

The first is that unlike other pedals (e.g. the Yamaha Dragon) when making adjustments there is no way to hold anything in place. The index point of whatever you are adjusting is always in flux. Thus it is very hard to get the two beaters even with each other.

The second design flaw has to do with the aluminum collars near the reso head which the screws that affix the beaters screw into. This flaw became apparent when I used the pedals for a protracted period on an electronic kit, the BD pad not having much "give." Because the collars that receive the steel screw are aluminum, the impact of the beater against head stripped the screws out of the collar, first on the main and then on the slave pedal. I was going to replace the collars but realized that the same thing would happen again because the aluminum female threads simply can't stand up to the forces exerted upon them.

I was able to fix this by drilling out the hole of stripped thread with a .250" drill bit and retapping the hole with tap from Fix-A-Thread M6-1 (PN 35069), and threading in a steel helicoil to accept the factory screw. This makes both of the mating threads (female as well as male)steel, and I'm hoping that the greater surface area of the larger threads that engage the aluminum collar will keep it from stripping out.

This is a serious design flaw. Tama should re-spec the front collar to be made out of steel rather than out of aluminum. Their engineers should have calculated that the forces potentially exerted on the aluminum threads from the impact of the beaters were enough to make them fail.

Comments about Tama HP900RSWN Iron Cobra Rolling Glide Double Pedal:

Great Pedals, I had some Power Glides that seemed to work against me and switched to these. Strong and smooth. I removed the cobra coils as they didn't
seem nessesary. A great addition to my arsenal!
